Mushtaq-ul-Islam led ML joins ‘Real Hurriyat’

Srinagar, Jan 23: In a major boost to the recently constituted Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir, the pro-freedom Muslim League headed by Mushtaq-ul-Islam Thursday announced to join the conglomerate to strengthen the ‘real Hurriyat’ and secure and safeguard the mission of martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir.

A statement received by GNS from the pro-freedom party Thursday said that the decision to join Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir was taken during the meeting of consultative committee (Majlis-e-Shoora) held under the chairmanship of Mushtaq-ul-Islam today. The Shoora members also upheld the recent decision of resistance leaders of forming the Hurriyat Conference JK and extended its full support to the forum by announcing its joining the amalgam to strengthen the real Hurriyat.

“The members unanimously decided to continue the struggle of implementing a political system based on Islamic values and principles, and said that to remove the obstacles in this way is the need of the hour,” the Shoora members said.

“And the biggest impediment in achieving our objective is the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by Indian imperialistic forces. And to banish such forcible occupation, the need to join hands with ideological people is vital,” they added.

The spokesman said that the members also reminded Mushtaq-ul-Islam of foiling the designs of those following the path of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, while enjoying the ranks of Hurriyat.

“At the end, ML chairman, while expressing his gratitude to almighty said that the freedom is at its crucial phase but the Hurriyat will come forward to safeguard the sacrifices of the people. He also said that union of like-minded resistance leaders and groups will remove the pessimism created by so-called Hurriyat leaders in the minds of masses with regards to Hurriyat Conference,” the spokesman said.

He said that announcing its decision of joining the forum of Hurriyat Conference JK, ML chairman Mushtaq-ul-Islam informed the amalgam’s leadership accordingly and reiterated the pledge of securing and safeguarding the mission of martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir. (GNS).

Snow clearance: ‘First priority of Municipality are VIP Colonies’

Srinagar, Jan 23: The residents of South Kashmir’s Anantnag town Thursday alleged that town Municipality displayed no keenness in clearing snow from the lanes and roads of the town. They alleged that only the lanes and roads of VIP colonies were cleared while most of the roads in the town are filled with snow.

Locals told CNS that town Municipality neither visited any area nor bothered to clear snow from Main General Bus Stand, Heaven Colony, Bakshi Abad, Dantar, Anchidora, Muslim Abad and Nai Basti areas of Anantnag. “No road is motorable and it has become very difficult for people especially for old men and women to walk on slippery roads,” one of the residents of Anchidora said

Locals said that Municipality officials prefer to clear snow from those areas only which housed affluent and influential people. They said that Municipality officials directed employees to clear snow from VIP Khanabal Colony but did not bother to clear the parts situated adjacent to the said Colony.

Terming the allegations baseless, a Municipality official told CNS that there men are on job and within one or two days all the roads of the town will be cleared. (CNS).

Maharashtra's 200 crore IAS officer whose salary is Rs 82,000 a month

Maharashtra's 200 crore IAS officer whose salary is Rs 82,000 a month
Pune, Maharashtra: A senior IAS officer in Maharashtra has allegedly racked up a fortune worth Rs 200 crores by acquiring large tracts of government land that he oversees.

Prabhakar Deshmukh, the Divisional Commissioner of Pune and the city's top bureaucrat, is alleged to have acquired over 150 acres of land in five districts he controls.

Property registration documents accessed by NDTV show that Mr Deshmukh bought 300 acres of land jointly with builder Ramesh Kavediya in a village in Satara district, for just Rs 2 crore, or less than Rs 2 a square foot. The land, shown as "reserved for rehabilitation" in official records, is worth Rs 6 crore.

Last year, the price of this land skyrocketed overnight to Rs 127 crore after it was declared "non-agricultural" despite objections from two departments, on January 28, the same day Mr Kavediya applied for a change of status.

Mr Kavediya, who runs the Siddhivinayak real estate group, denied any wrongdoing, saying, "Mr Deshmukh was buying the same land and we were also interested, so it's for convenience that we registered the land deal together."

The IAS officer told NDTV all his land deals have been fair and that he is being targeted by some people.

In 2011, under a rule that requires government officials to disclose their assets, Mr Deshmukh declared 95 acres of land and two flats in Pune and Mumbai worth six crores. His official salary is about Rs 82,000 a month.

His declared land includes a 6,000 square foot patch in his native village in Satara, which he bought for just Rs 50,000 in an auction conducted by his own department.

Mr Deshmukh justified it saying he had the right to buy land in his village. "I have informed the government about this.''

An RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar has written to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and the state chief secretary asking for an investigation into Mr Deshmukh's wealth.

"Deshmukh is close to leaders across parties, who have taken benefits from him,'' Mr Kumbhar told

When it snows, problems rain for Kashmir valley

Behind the breathtaking view of snowfall lies the miseries and agony of the people of the forgotten Kashmir. As snow carpets the Valley, the Omar Abdullah government seemingly failed to live up to the expectations of the people rendered helpless by the weather vagaries.

Most parts of the Kashmir Valley are groping in dark as essential services such as electricity has been badly hit by the snowfall. Water supply systems too have been severely affected in most parts. Kashmir has been cut off from the rest of the country as 300 kilometre Srinagar-Jammu highway has been closed for traffic. Snow also forced the cancellation of all flights operating to and from the Srinagar international airport. Inter-district rail traffic has also been hampered.

Srinagar recorded one feet of snow till 2.30 pm on Wednesday. Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, recorded 2.5 feet of snow. Famed resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg also recorded 2.5 feet of snow each. Border district of Kupwara recorded seven centimeters while Kokarnag in south Kashmir recorded 2.5 feet of snow.

Snowfall has thrown life out of gear across Kashmir. Though the snow clearance operations have been started, the roads in remote and far flung areas are still buried. Snow has hit the traffic operations with massive gridlocks witnessed across the capital city. Slippery conditions prevailed at various areas leading to bumping of vehicles.

“Stuck in traffic since last one hour now. Roads have not been cleared, drive slippery and government has already slipped. Woe this government and administration that hides when people need it the most!” tweeted IbneBattuta. Similarly, patients are facing difficulties in reaching to the hospital in far flung areas of Kashmir.
