Went out over the weekend, bite was tough but we managed to put one on the bank and one in the boat! Tried a little drift fishing and the flathead seemed to enjoy some chopped up chunks of invasive jumping bois! The blue did as well but he was just from the bank🤘🏼

Once upon a time last November: last November I went out for a weekend hunt as I do. Thursday night I packed my bags and got the truck put together. Willa "my dog" knows now what time it is when she sees me get the guns out. "Not tonight girl" I say but tomorrow. Friday's work day drags on, all I can focus on is figuring out where I'm going to go and what should I hunt. I decided I'm going to attempt to carry both my shotgun and rifle as I had an unfilled deer tag and it was the last weekend of rifle season. "I discovered later this would be a challenge in itself" But also my main focus was on finding me some sharp tails, or should I say Willa finding us some. I scanned onX Hunt all day. I found the spot I was to drive to. About a 7 hour drive from my house. 3:30 came around and I was in my truck and out of the parking lot before anyone else had their tools put away 😂. I get home and load Willa into the truck. "She sits in the passenger seat if mama doesn't come with" and tell Marisa Carroll see yuh in a few✌️. I got to the spot around 10:30 pm We hopped in the bed of the truck and passed out. I woke before my alarm went off as the sky was just starting to show some color. Being as we were bird hunting as well I gave it a few minutes to get some coffee going and me and Willa sat on the tailgate to watch the sun rise. now the fun part, I threw on my pack slung the rifle over my shoulder and loaded my shotgun. "I looked like I was getting ready for some kind of zombie apocalypse" 😂 we stepped off. It wouldn't be tell about mile 3 that Willa started getting Birdy. Quartering back and forth like a bat out of hell I was sure some birds would explode around me at any moment. Nothing happened. I look up and see down into the next valley 2 bucks chasing around a doe. I pull out my Vortex Optics spotting scope and watch them looking for a shooter. One of the bucks was a solid 8. I placed my pack on the ground layed down my shotgun and told Willa to sit down. Marked my location on onx so I can find her and my gear once I get back. These deer were moving FAST and in a few moments so was I. sprinting roughly a 6-700 yards with just my rifle to what I could only hope would be the next hill they would run. Once I got there I started to think I made the wrong choice as I couldn't see the deer. I turned around and running straight at me was the 8 I had seen. I was trying to catch my breath to get a good shot but could not get myself settled in fast enough and he kept going, not hanging around long enough to give me a shot. "Well I guess I'll get back to bird hunting" I say aloud and start walking back to the spot I left Willa and my gear. As I get back Willa is looking to the south of me with her head perked up and her tail wagging fast. She's watching a deer! It's the doe I thought, I never seen where she went. Wanting to get back to bird hunting I made a choice. Try to get the doe to fill my tag. I laid down on the ground my breathing was steady at this point and "the doe" was walking my direction slowly eating on some grass. I settled in and squeezed. Next thing you know I had me a field dressed button buck😂 he wasn't very big as you can see in the video. That ended up playing in my favor I looked him over and decided I'm going to try the backpack method. I watched a video of Tim Wells Relentless Pursuit doing it with a red stag why could I not do it with a button buck. I slung my rifle and picked up the shotgun put my pack on the front of me then hoisted the deer onto my back. It wouldn't have been so bad if I only had the rifle or the shotgun carrying both and a deer was a challenge we walked 3 miles back to the truck I had Willa at heel the whole time so she could save some energy for when I was able to hunt again. I threw the deer into the bed of my truck and filled it with ice. We proceeded to bird hunt the rest of the weekend with mixed results but I'll save that story for another day.

People see a fish picture and recognize the body of water! I recognize the spot hes at we are different 🤣 stealing spots since i was young! 🤣

Sad I couldn't make it down this year with them but at least there sending pictures. Dad and kaiden caught a nice one from the beach!
