The only thing better than rest and some good food (when you can stomach it) when you're sick are some goat lovins and pasteurization LOL
Mystra is pretty much a second skin, so she was all in my lap and rubbing against my face. Cleo, who thank god is feeling better outside of a little anemic, was also up and close for some attention.
Then, later I took a bit of Pixie's milk to pasteurized and taste. Like goat milk! She's not being milked really at all right now since she's raising twins. We are going to start separating the kids at night in about 2 weeks to milk her in the morning, but she has been UPSET she hasnt been on the milk stand like Alpine everyday. So, a little treat!

Someone was chilling next to me yesterday after her big day outside! The babies have been so curious, and little Mantis is big enough to be romping around now.
Pixie is already upset she isnt getting put on the milk stand, so we let her up, gave her some grain, and brushed her out. The worst part about the longer coats is how GROSS it gets during and after birth LOL

All the kids were put together last night and Mantis is already at the stage of playing around. Alpine was confused, but Mantis was more than happy to have some other little kids around! Sour Patch was very curious, Whoppers not so much, haha.

And Pixie's ship has landed!!!
Everyone meet Whoppers (the brown female named by one of the boss' daughters) and Sour Patch (the white male named by my fiance, Sylas)! These two came in weighing at 3.4lbs and 4.1lbs and too much cuteness. Pixie did a wonderful job, though was a lot more dramatic than Alpine was - to be expected.
Thank you, momma, to two healthy kids!!

Pixie has started separating out from the herd and her udders were a bit tighter this morning. Fingers crossed she gives us her kid(s?) Today! Going to go check on her soon and might pull her into the barn for better monitoring.

Getting her out on pasture! She had overnight time alone with mom to really solidify their bond, but I could tell Alpine wanted to go out. And, since so many other farms just have their kids on pasture, I figured no harm.

And after a long wait, a baby has landed!!!
Alpine gave us a healthy baby girl this morning weighing in at 4.4lbs. We are naming the kiddo Mantis, to follow with the Marvel theme from the zoo (Alpine is Bucky's cat, and her mother was named Rocket). Mom did so well and the baby has already started nursing, pkus we got some extra colostrum to keep for the next kids due in case of any issues!
I cannot *begin* to explain my excitement here, especially with our luck on the first kid born being a girl! For such an endangered breed, this adds to future breeding does to continue in conservation of the breed and expansion of genetics. This is what it's all about!!
Congrats, Alpine! Now we just watch for Pixie :D

I don't often share the other critters on this page, but Worm deserves quite the shoutout. Things have been a bit rough lately, and he is such an attentive dog. He knows when I need the company.

The exciting news is that our two girls due dates are this weekend!!! And man are they showin it.
We start baby watch this Saturday with Ms. Alpine, and while we've been on it for Pixie due to how much her udder developed over the past month and a half, she *officially* starts on Monday. It's crazy I get to say "it's finally here, at some point in the next 2 weeks, we'll have baby goats".
Fingers crossed for 2-3 healthy arapawa babies

Short video, but look closely! Watch the breathing.
We keep two breeds of rabbits. American Blues and Silver Foxes. Our first desire is meat, but second to it comes the pelts, which is why we dove into the Silver Fox.
Here in Northern Arkansas, we've been getting some HOT temps. Days in the high 80s and into the 90s with real feels in the high 90s, and unfortunately our barn had the perfect week to have an electrical issue so we were without power a couple of days. This meant three times a day changing the frozen tiles to help keep the rabbits cool.
In the heat, it's been neat watching these animals and how they handle it - it's important to know to assure we are keeping a breed healthy. Rabbits already do not handle heat well, but we have noticed an incredible difference between the AB and SF. The black rabbit here is one of the growouts from our ABxSF and look at how much heavier he's breathing compared to the AB.
Knowing the AB is a lot more heat tolerant is wonderful, as it leads us to be able to promote them more when people ask. Yeah, anyone can get a TAMUK, but American Blues are a heritage breed that helped is get to where we are with rabbits today!

Truly, they've been a favorite of mine so far. It's fun continuing to watch them grow and see how they differ from our SF.

The rabbits got a nice fresh garden salad today!
Lettuce, swiss chard, radish tops, borage leaves and flowers, and fresh strawberries. Plus the normal grass and clover.
We might not have our rabbits on the ground, but they get some fresh forage daily, even if it's just pulling up what I can behind the barn!
