I’m REACHING OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY with something close to my heart.
There are so many people experiencing homelessness around us. And I want to start by saying this: I see a lot of compassion here. People helping when they can. Offering food, kindness, a moment of dignity. That part is beautiful — it really is.
What’s harder… and what needs to be challenged… is the quiet belief that sometimes follows homelessness —that these folks somehow *deserve* this life, or didn’t try hard enough,
or didn’t take life seriously.
The truth is very different.
Many people who are unhoused had/have jobs, families, routines, and plans — until something showed up:
• an illness
• mental health struggles
• abuse
• addiction
• job loss
• a single life trauma that spiraled
I personally know people who work in the very stores we shop in locally…and then go back to a tent, a shelter, or literally under a bridge when their shift ends.
For my show, The Empower Hour, I want to change the conversation.
I want to listen
I want to share their stories — in their own words.
And I want to explore how,,as a community, we can help people get rebuilt, redirected, and re-inspired.
If you know someone who is homeless — or someone experiencing housing insecurity — who might be open to being interviewed (with respect, dignity, and compassion), please reach out to me privately. I don't want to air anyone out publicly with a comment to this post with identifying information. Please just send in a PRIVATE message.
This isn’t about judgment. This isn’t about pity.
This is about human beings, and what becomes possible when we actually see one another.
Thank you for being the kind of community that cares enough to try.
