Charlton Singleton Performs "Crossroads" (Orangeburg Massacre 50th Anniversary)

February 8, 1968, highway patrolmen opened fire on nearly 200 unarmed black students engaging in peaceful protest; killing three young men (Henry Smith, Samuel Hammond and Delano Middleton) and injuring 28 others on the campus of SC State University. This Civil Rights incident is remembered as The Orangeburg Massacre. The Orangeburg Massacre is attributed as one of the most violent episodes and least recognized events of the Civil Rights Movement. In reflection, we commemorate the 52nd Anniversary with a powerful, original piece written, composed and performed by Grammy Award Winning SC State Alumnus, Charlton Singleton entitled "Crossroads".

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I always enjoy the great jazz and information.
Thank you WSSB for including, "Bean's Groove" in the mix!!!
Hello, There is a magical story behind the remake of Natalie Cole "La Costa" by Lisa Dietrich. She initially recorded this song as a gift for her dad for Father’s Day last year. She recently heard the original song by Natalie Cole for the first time, and fell in LOVE with it! It was reminiscent of Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, which was one of her dad's favorites! Tracy Carter, a friend of her's, who is a fabulous producer as well as keyboardist for Chaka Khan, helped her remake the song. Between the two of them, they put an “A” team of musicians together; -Tracy Carter-Producer & Keyboardist (Chaka Khan) -Verdine White-Bass (Earth Wind and Fire). -Philip Lassiter-Horns (Prince) -Erick Walls-Guitar (Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Jay Z & Beck), -Gorden Campbell-Drums (Earth Wind & Fire, Neyo & George Duke). She researched to see who composed this masterpiece, and found Aziza Miller (formerly Linda Williams), she was Natalie Cole’s very first Music Director! She reached out to her on Facebook and told her how thrilled she was to record this song for her Dad, and told her the musicians she had on board. Aziza asked her to please send her the final version. She said it was the best version she had heard since Natalie recorded it! The next thing she knew, she was flying to New York to write a new song with Aziza! She was beyond thrilled and honored, and will be releasing that song as well. Because of the overwhelming response, she received from her music peers, I was inspired to release "La Costa" as a single, with an EP in the works to follow. A few days after her release, she was added in at the end of this article about Natalie and Aziza! http://www.goldminemag.com/articles/fabulous-flip-sides/fabulous-flip-sides-in-memoriam-natalie-cole Social Media Posts.... "I am absolutely LOVING this version of "La Costa" by my great friend lisa dietrich!!! Thank you for making my day as this is the perfect sound for a summer day. The singing is excellent and the sonics are spectacular as well!!" Mark Batson, Multiple Grammy award winner and producer for Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Eminem, Dr Dre, Dave Mathews, India Arie, Seal, Sting.... "Wonderful Sunday Morning ear candy! My absolute favorite Natalie Cole song, co-written by power woman Aziza Miller, and recreated with lush love, by my sweet friend Lisa DIetrich." Sandra St Victor, Lead Singer for Family Stand "La Costa" is now on radio internationally, and she has received over 32,308 views of her lyric video in just a bit over 2 weeks! Face Book Music Page: https://www.facebook.com/lisadietrichmusic/?notif_id=1530334297085571¬if_t=page_fan La Costa Music Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvqoKtEo8a8
