Be sure to carry water if we're walking long distances or are exercising in hot weather. In very hot weather, we may need fitness drinks or other sources of electrolytes as well.

Be sure to carry water if we're walking long distances or are exercising in hot weather. In very hot weather, we may need fitness drinks or other sources of electrolytes as well. Be mindful of the sugar and calorie content of some of these drinks. Stay safe during hot-weather exercise by drinking enough fluids, wearing proper game of basketball or going for a power walk, take care when the temperature rises. If we don't take care when exercising in the heat, we risk serious illness.

Always warm up by walking at a slow or normal walking pace for five minutes before picking up the tempo of our workout. In order to optimize our walking pace, try to aim for 1.5 miles per 30 minutes and 3 miles per hour, which is a brisk pace of about 20 minutes per mile. If we can't commit to walking for a full hour or 30 minutes, do what we can, anything is better than nothing and can contribute to our daily steps tremendously.

Since these are the only expense and equipment We'll need, pay attention to the fit and quality of our shoes. Shoes should fit when we try them on without any areas of pinching or pressure that could cause blisters or calluses. Wear the type of socks we'll wear when walking when we purchase our shoes, and remember that we'll likely need a larger-sized shoe than we normally wear if we plan to wear thick socks. Shoes should have good arch support and a slightly elevated heel with stiff material to support the heel when walking and prevent wobbling. Trekking poles or other accessories may also help, depending upon the climate and terrain where we'll be walking.
