The muriqui is the largest monkey in South America and is often called the “peaceful monkey.” What sets it apart is its unique social behavior. Unlike many primates, muriquis do not compete for dominance or form rigid hierarchies. Instead, they live in egalitarian communities where cooperation is central. They share food, care for one another, and actively avoid conflict. When tension arises, they respond with affection or distance rather than aggression. In a natural world often ruled by force, the muriqui demonstrates that peace can be a powerful survival strategy
