Good News from South Carolina: Rain Brings Relief, Connectivity Efforts Make a Real Difference
We’re relieved to share an encouraging update from South Carolina, where AVFX team member Mookie Thayer has been assisting efforts to restore critical communications during recent wildfires:
After two days of steady rainfall, emergency responders have finally gained ground against fires that had communities on edge for days. The mood at the main incident command center—where Mookie helped establish essential internet and radio networks—is noticeably lighter. These temporary communication systems have allowed first responders to coordinate their efforts clearly and confidently, especially during the most intense periods of the crisis.
Yesterday, Mookie and his teammates from the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) expanded these networks into local community sites, creating temporary connectivity hubs at shelters and gathering spots. These pop-up networks have given families a way to stay in touch, eased fears, and helped restore a sense of normalcy during uncertainty.
At AVFX, we build networks to power events and tradeshows every day. But it’s moments like these—when connectivity genuinely helps people breathe a little easier and reconnect with loved ones—that remind us why our work truly matters.
We're proud of Mookie, grateful to all those responding to the crisis, and hopeful for continued good news in South Carolina.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
