The truth about p**n and addiction:
A story of healing and understanding
I used to think p**n was just some taboo, harmless curiosity.
Turns out, for many of us, it’s a complex coping mechanism rooted in trauma and unmet emotional needs.
My today’s guest Josh Shea shared how his own journey began at 12, spiraled into addiction, then into recovery. Not just about stopping a habit, but understanding why he started — the need for control, calm, escape. His story isn’t unique, but the lessons are profound.
What struck me most? The normalization and accessibility of p**n today. It’s no longer taboo; it’s everywhere, especially for kids. And with that, the risk of addiction grows—along with a disconnection from healthy relationships and real intimacy.
Josh’s experience highlights a simple truth: addiction isn’t about morality. It’s about coping. About not having the tools to deal with trauma, fear, or loneliness. And recovery begins with understanding, not judgment.
Maybe that’s the point. We need more open conversations, more education, and less shame around these issues. Because healing starts with awareness.
Worth thinking about.
