One conversation that comes up all the time in the RV community is how to experience New York City while living on the road. And as you can imagine, most nearby options are pretty limited, usually just a place to boondock or a tight concrete parking spot.

That’ll get the job done… but for our Thousand Trails families, we’ve found a much better way 🌆.

Thousand Trails Rondout Valley gives you all the campground amenities you actually want, while still keeping NYC within reach. It’s about a 50-minute drive to the Poughkeepsie train station, where you can park and hop on a train that runs multiple times a day straight into Grand Central Station, no transfers needed🗽🚕.

Tickets are easy to plan and grab on the MTA app, and here’s the best part for families: each one-way adult ticket (around $21) lets you bring up to 4 kids ages 5–17 for just $1 each. Kiddos 5 and under free.

Way easier and cheaper than trying to bus your whole crew into the city and saves you the nightmare of taking a wrong turn and ending up with your fifth wheel jackknifed at an intersection in Times Square🫣🚐.

When you’re done living the city life, come back to the safe spot you left your home and decompress in the nature of upstate NY. Best of both worlds.
