This was a tough read. A lot of research went into it and you can feel that more than you can the actual story. Some of those darlings needed to be killed. The first 75% of the book builds to very little and the last 25% is interesting and then just ends. Important characters drop from the story at confusing times. Overall, a boring one. Took me way too long to finish because I simply couldn’t find the engagement with it.

This felt like stumbling across a strange artifact, echoing out from the last person who found it. Remaining actively engaged the entire time, this book will have you scrambling and pondering and questioning. This one will sit with me for a very long time.

Beginning to believe it’s impossible to go wrong with anything Lewis writes. This book is laid out as letters from a higher ranking demon named Screwtape to his younger ranking nephew named Wormwood. He is mentoring him through the process of winning over the soul of a newly converted Christian man. So well written, such a fun format.

I had high expectations given the reaction of some folks to this book. The first 75 pages were kind of a drag. I’m not sure what the character arc really is. I came away thinking it was fine. I’m sure this will become clearer as I sit with the story a little longer and digest more. But overall, kinda boring.
