Where are your favorite places to paddle?

While I have a list of favorites, they are in no particular order because it depends on what time of year I’m going, who I’m going with, and my mood.

But in the end, I just really love being on the water.

I love hiking, but I really love the company more. I’m slowly going to be focusing on more solo hikes though.

If you are a solo hiker, where are your favorite places to go?

My very first solo hike. I’m glad I went for it. Somehow, filming and taking photos helped me focus on what was around me instead of any risks I might encounter on the trail.

I’m really glad I faced one of my biggest fears.

Are you a solo hiker?

Easy paddles still deserve basic safety. Calm water can change quickly, especially when spring runs connect to open rivers and lakes. Make sure to wear your PFD correctly and keep your whistle easy to reach. Always stay aware of what the weather, wind, and current are doing.

It was a great time to revisit Scrub Oak Preserve in DeLand. It had just rained, so the temperature had dropped and the sugar sand trails were packed down and easier to walk on.

We were hoping to see some Florida scrub jays since this is one of the places you can spot them, but we must have missed them. We saw plenty of bunnies though.

The longhorns next door are super cool too.

The hike is around 1.5 miles long with a few changes in elevation, and the sugar sand can be a little challenging when it’s dry.

Before anyone comes after me, this is total sarcasm.

I love my teens so much and they are my favorite people to spend time with. We homeschool and have a lot of fun together.

But they don’t love paddling like my hubby and I. So when we go out it can be a challenge unless we bring friends or go somewhere that has swimming.

Let me know in the comments if you paddle with your teens.

We returned to Longleaf Pine Preserve in DeLand after a few days of rain to see if any of the trail had flooding.

Our German shepherd joined us too!

Have you hiked out here? Let me know in the comments.

🫣I’m not a fast hiker. It’s not because I’m incapable of it, but because I’m out here for the whole experience. I stop and take photos and videos, I smell the flowers, and I take my hiking boots off so I can feel the sand and grass.

I wasn’t always like this though. I used to try to beat my hiking time and distance every time I hit the trail. Then I had kids that I carried and breastfed while hiking, and then I got cancer and could barely make it to the bathroom from my bed, let alone hike for miles.

It’s been a journey. And one day I may set some kind of goal to hike the fastest and the longest, who knows.

I’m just here enjoying the journey.
