Walking is a weight-bearing exercise that provides significant benefits for bone density and overall musculoskeletal health, helping to prevent falls, fractures, and frailty in the following ways:

Supports Bone Density
* Walking forces your bones to support your body’s weight against gravity. This stimulates bone cells (osteoblasts) to produce new bone tissue, which can slow age-related bone loss and maintain bone density.
* Regular walking reduces the risk of osteoporosis, a condition where bones become brittle and prone to fractures.
Improves Muscle Strength
* Walking strengthens the muscles around the bones, particularly in the legs, hips, and core, providing better support and stability for the skeletal system.
* Improved muscle strength enhances balance and coordination, reducing the likelihood of falling.
Enhances Balance and Coordination
* Walking helps maintain proper posture and body alignment, which can prevent missteps or uneven gait.
* Regular walking trains your brain and muscles to work together efficiently, minimizing the risk of falls.
Maintains Joint Health
* Walking keeps joints flexible, reducing stiffness and improving overall range of motion.
* Healthy cartilage is maintained through regular movement, protecting bones from direct impact.
Strengthens Hip and Spine Bones
* The repetitive impact of walking is especially beneficial for the weight-bearing bones, such as the hips and spine, which are common sites for fractures in older adults.
Prevents Frailty
* Walking helps maintain endurance, energy levels, and overall functional fitness, reducing frailty in older adults.
* Regular walking supports the ability to perform daily activities without assistance.

Aim for at least 30 minutes of walking most days of the week. Wear supportive shoes to reduce strain on your joints and improve stability. Incorporate hills or uneven surfaces to challenge your muscles and balance further. If balance is an issue, use a cane or walking poles to stay safe. Walking is a simple, accessible activity that can significantly improve bone health, reduce the risk of falls, and promote overall physical resilience.

Hi!
Since it’s been a while, and there are a few new faces here, I thought I should re-introduce myself. 👋🏻

I’m Shann! I’m 55, have 2 labs (1 white, 1 black), no kids by choice & madly in love with my skydiving boy-man for 24 years.

I love live music, working out & traveling. But I also love teaching ladies new ways to combat their menopausal symptoms as they age.

I left the toxic cubicle life in 2015, after 18 years of empty promises. I was sick of trading crazy amounts of “MY” time, hard work & effort, for 3 weeks of paid vacation with no promotions. My mental health couldn’t take it anymore.

I started looking for a better way. We (Charles & I) came up with a plan and moved to IL from MI in 2015.

I got into Network and Affiliate Marketing and have been learning how to add more streams of income ever since…. Because it’s just smart.😎

So here we are. Learning to live through Menopause & figuring out how to create happiness & joy, stay active & keep the spark between me & boy-man!

Let me know if we have anything in common! Oh and join our Heathy Over 40 private group for more tips on beating the Pause!!✌🏻

I’ve talked to so many of you and you are just as confused as I was about Perimenopause & Menopause. So, let’s break it down.

WHAT IS MENOPAUSE?
Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's reproductive years. It occurs when the ovaries stop producing eggs and the body produces less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which regulate menstruation and fertility.

KEY FACTS ABOUT MENOPAUSE:
1. It’s a process, not a single event. Menopause officially begins when you haven’t had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months.
2. The average age for menopause is 51, but it can happen anytime between ages 40 and 58.
3. It’s a normal phase of life, not a medical condition.

PHASES OF MENOPAUSE:
1. Perimenopause:
* The transition leading up to menopause.
* Can begin as early as your late 30s or 40s.
* Symptoms like irregular periods, mood swings, and hot flashes may start here.
2. Menopause:
* Confirmed when you’ve gone 12 months without a period.
* Hormonal changes peak, often causing the most noticeable symptoms.
* It’s literally 1 day long.
3. Postmenopause:
* The phase after menopause.
* Symptoms may ease, but lower hormone levels can increase the risk of health issues like osteoporosis and heart disease.

WHAT TO EXPECT LEADING UP TO & DURING MENOPAUSE:
Every woman’s experience is different, but common symptoms include:
1. Changes in Menstrual Cycle:
* Periods may become irregular, heavier, lighter, or shorter before stopping completely.
2. Hot Flashes & Night Sweats:
* Sudden feelings of heat, often followed by sweating and chills.
* Can disrupt daily life and sleep.
3. Mood Swings:
* Fluctuations in hormones can lead to irritability, anxiety, or depression.
4. Sleep Disturbances:
* Difficulty falling or staying asleep, often due to hot flashes or hormonal shifts.
5. Vaginal Dryness & Discomfort:
* Lower estrogen can lead to dryness, itching, or discomfort during in*******se.
6. Weight Gain & Slower Metabolism:
* Hormonal changes may make it harder to maintain weight.
7. Brain Fog:
* Difficulty focusing or remembering things, often referred to as “menopause brain.”
8. Physical Changes:
* Thinning hair, dry skin, and changes in breast tissue are also common.

HOW TO MANAGE MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS:
1. Lifestyle Changes:
* Stay active: Regular exercise helps reduce weight gain, improve mood, and strengthen bones.
* Eat well: Focus on whole foods rich in calcium, vitamin D, and healthy fats.
* Sleep hygiene: Create a bedtime routine and keep your room cool.
2. Support for Emotional Well-Being:
* Practice mindfulness, yoga, or meditation.
* Connect with a support group or therapist.
3. Natural Remedies:
* Herbal supplements, such as black cohosh or evening primrose, may help alleviate symptoms (consult a healthcare provider first).
4. Medical Treatments:
* Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or non-hormonal medications can be prescribed for severe symptoms.

Menopause is a natural transition, not an end. By understanding the process and taking proactive steps, you can navigate this stage with strength and grace.
