The m.i.l.k. Digital ID salutes the efforts of The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children – NCMEC-NY/MC for their annual event: The Ride for Missing Children.

What started as a small group of bicyclists hoping to raise
awareness of one missing child has grown into their largest annual fundraiser!

The Awareness Continues

November 2017 marks the 19-year anniversary of the first missing child in the United States recovered with the AMBER Alert.

Rae-Leigh Bradbury was just eight weeks old when her babysitter kidnapped her from her family's Arlington, Texas apartment. 90 minutes after the AMBER Alert was issued, a passerby spotted the infant in the babysitter's truck. Police responded and found the baby safely asleep in a car seat. Rae-Leigh is now a college freshman.

The AMBER Alert was named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman who was abducted and slain in 1996. The acronym AMBER officially stands for “America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response.”

After the tragedy of young Amber Hagerman, Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to help find abducted children. Since its inception, it has spread to all 50 states and hundreds of children have been rescued and returned specifically because of the AMBER Alert.

As we celebrate and enjoy our family and friends during this Thanksgiving Holiday, please keep our lost and missing children and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

On today’s date (July 27) in 1981, 6-year-old Adam John Walsh was abducted from a mall in Hollywood, Florida. He was later found murdered. In the aftermath of this crime, Adam’s parents, John and Reve Walsh, became leading victims’ rights activists and helped found the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). John Walsh later became the host of the long-running television show America’s Most Wanted.

In 1999, at the request of NCMEC, the m.i.l.k. (Managing Information on Lost Kids) Digital ID was created. The m.i.l.k. ID gives parents a convenient method of storing a photo and identification information of their children. The m.i.l.k. Digital ID can easily be forward to local authorities in the event your child is lost or missing.

National Missing Children’s Day is May 25th. On this date in 1979, Etan Patz disappeared while walking to his Manhattan school bus stop. Six-year-old Etan was one of the first children whose disappearance was publicized in a high-profile manner…on milk cartons.

The m.i.l.k. Digital ID immediately provides the photos and identification information necessary to assist law enforcement in a missing child situation.

Please keep our lost and missing children in your thoughts and prayers.
