I remember the first time.
Here I was a wet-behind-the-ears new follower, trying to figure out what being a Christian was all about. He saved me, there was no doubt about that. But the rest of my journey was just a big unanswered question for me; my life was different, new, exciting, scary... But it wasn't long before the day came where someone was in front of me asking, "What makes you so special? Do you think you're better than I am?"
I remember the adrenaline. I mean... Lord, I'm not ready for this, I can't think of a single verse right now. But I have to buck up. They are going to see that I'm floundering and they're going to walk away. I'm supposed to feel peace, feel confident, they need to know you like I do! They need to hear me so I can convince them!! It's my only chance to plant this seed, and by gum... I'm going to fight for their soul! I'm going to use this armor of God to slay their sins!! I'm going to... I'm going to...
I missed the point, entirely.
God uses us to show others the Way. His Way. The battle has already been won, and honestly, we weren't a part of that battle. The fact that He chooses us to spread the Good News of His mercy and power, when He could send an army of a thousand Angels to scare the sin right out of them... That, my friend, is Fatherly Love. And it doesn't have anything to do with our will and strength.
We are simply one (very valuable) part of the Church. Designed for one purpose on this earth. And that purpose is not to fight the evil doers until they submit. Not to impress them with our holiness. No. That's ridiculous.
Instead, it's to show them His absolute grace, by opening up our hearts and loving them, as Jesus loves us.
1 Corinthians 9:26
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
