What do the Emu Wars, the Pine Tree Riots, and Joan of Arc have in common?

Apparently... pizza.

During your next TikTok doom scroll you should go follow , hosted by Owensboro's own firefighter and brewmaster, David Haynes. The owner of The Brew Bridge.

365 days. 365 different pizzas. And somehow, a whole lot of history to go along with a whole lot of weird toppings!

I've already binged every episode and now I'm stuck waiting for the next one to drop. Honestly, it's better than Netflix.

Forks Up Girls Trip - Asheville, NC

Long before Sunny Point Café landed in the 2025 Michelin Guide, it topped the Chaos Family Trips Guide.

That is no small feat. Very few restaurants have survived the picky eaters I've raised. It’s a minor flaw in my parenting skills.

Ryland: Chicken and Waffle Sandwich
Bre: Plain Jane French Toast
Lucy Jagoe: Pound Cake Bites
Stone: Mighty Good Breakfast.

This trip, I ordered the Tuna Burger. Yellowfin tuna mixed with soy, sesame and ginger, topped with scallion aioli, ripe tomato and peppery arugula. It hit every single flavor note!

But let's talk about the real star of the show: the shrimp and grits.

Cheesy chipotle grits. Blackened shrimp. Dijon cream sauce.

And then there's the maple black pepper bacon.

Put it on the shrimp and grits, put it on your burger, put it with your eggs! Just put it in your mouth! It is absolutely ridiculous.

If you're headed to Asheville, put your name on the waitlist, grab a cocktail and claim an Adirondack chair. The wait is part of the experience.

And when you get your check, tip your server well. The staff here is genuinely some of the kindest you'll find anywhere.

Also pictured: Fried green tomatoes with red pepper aioli and goat cheese. Fantastic! And a mocktail called Blackberry Thyme which was wonderful!

Taking a kid to camp in North Carolina means one thing: girls trip!

A quick detour through Lexington to visit The Eye of the Needle, the local needlepoint store, gave us the perfect excuse to stop at my favorite burger chain. Period. (Yes, I have a grandma hobby, I learned from my actual grandmother)

I am not opposed burger chains, I do prefer a local establishment if possible. But when the debate turns to Shake Shack versus In-N-Out, I'm Team Shake Shack every single time.

My order is simple: a single cheeseburger with crispy onions and ShackSauce. Add a basket of those perfectly crisp crinkle-cut fries, salted just right and smothered in their cheese sauce. This is not navho cheese sauce this is a luxury sauce that just happens to be made of cheese. Pure dairy nirvana.

A chocolate shake is always a solid choice, although those monthly lemonade flavors have talked me into switching my line up a time or two.

And then there's the mushroom burger worth not getting my regular order. A portobello mushroom stuffed with cheese, breaded and fried until golden. Move over, beef patty. This is a legitimate vegetarian competition.

A quick lunch run to Ole South Barbeque today!

Fresh salad bar with real crumbled bacon and those little potato sticks that used to come in a can in the 90’s.

Broccoli casserole, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The Mount Rushmore of Southern vegetables. Mac and cheese absolutely counts as a vegetable under the right circumstances, do not debate me over this in the comments.

But the sneak play while everyone is focused on the sticky sweet BBQ? Throw a crispy fried chicken leg on the plate. The crowning glory of this East Parrish icon.

Crispy. Crunchy. Juicy. Everything fried chicken should be. Is it cooked in a cast iron skillet like your grandmother’s?

No.

But honestly, are you doing that on a Thursday lunch break either? Exactly.

And don’t sleep on their breakfast buffet either.

It’s Memorial Day! The grills are fired up, smokers rolling, and 1,000 variations of pasta salad are sitting out in the heat.

But the great debate at our house is always the hotdog.

Now let’s be clear. It’s going to be all beef. That part is nonnegotiable.

The real question is the grill level.

Slight marks? A little char? Heavy burn?
Full ripper? Or the last one standing?

Give me the last one standing every single time. That deep charred, almost questionable level of grilled perfection. It’s why I man the grill myself. Chef gets the best bites.

Hope your Memorial Day is filled with moments of honor, new memories, and a hotdog grilled exactly how you like it.

Today is my birthday, so naturally every post today is dedicated to CAKE!

Everything about cake makes me happy. Duncan Hines Devil’s Food boxed cake. Orange juice cake. Coconut cake. A full Bruce Bogtrotter level chocolate cake. Cupcakes. Fancy bakery cake. I support cake in all forms.

I even ordered my own birthday cake this year and honestly I cannot wait to see it. Don’t worry, I’ll absolutely post it later.

But my favorite cake of all time was for my daughter’s 4th birthday. Lucy Jagoe is a massive David Bowie fan, which began at our first living room showing of the iconic Jim Henson movie, Labyrinth. It was my favorite movie to rent from Wax Works when I was a kid, and if you tell her you’ve never seen it, she immediately assumes you had a tragic childhood.

Enjoy this little slice of nostalgia. Forks Up!

I really like pancakes.

I like butter and syrup on them. Sometimes blueberries in them. Never chocolate chips. My husband likes bananas in them and honestly that is a hard pass for me.

My niece likes hers cooked so lightly they are basically still batter.

I’ve had pancakes the size of a pizza box, pancakes from a just add water mix, and fancy little blinis with a caviar bump.

So now I need to know… how are YOU eating your pancakes? And where?

And if you say bananas we’re done!
