NO. 3 NOTRE DAME PULLS AWAY FROM MICHIGAN STATE, 27-10

SOUTH BEND, IN (9-19-26) – Notre Dame shut out Michigan State in the second half and reclaimed the Megaphone Trophy with a 27-10 victory Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium.

Micah Gilbert ( #14) caught eight passes for a career-high 170 yards, Nolan James Jr. ( #2) rushed for a career-best 121 yards and CJ Carr ( #13) passed for 234 yards before scoring the game’s final touchdown.

Notre Dame’s defense held Michigan State to 40 yards and no rushing yards in the second half. Luke Talich ( #16) and Adon Shuler ( #8) each recorded an interception as the Irish improved to 3-0.

Notre Dame travels to Purdue on Sept. 26.

Warren Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

WARREN, MI (9-19-26) – Music, dancing, traditional foods and community pride filled the Warren City Hall Atrium Saturday during the city’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

Warren Mayor Lori M. Stone and State Rep. Veronica Paiz addressed those attending, while Bill O’Brien of Strangers No Longer also participated in the program.

Entertainment included Chinelos dancers, bachata dancers from Centro Cultural Hispano, Peruvian folklore dancers, ballet folklórico dancers and Mariachi Band 2020.

Stone also issued a mayoral proclamation recognizing September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Warren and honoring the contributions Hispanic and Latino residents make to the city’s neighborhoods, businesses, schools, workplaces and cultural life.

UNDEFEATED SPARTANS AND FIGHTING IRISH MEET TONIGHT IN SOUTH BEND

SOUTH BEND, IN (9-19-26) – One of college football’s historic rivalries returns tonight as Michigan State (2-0) travels to Notre Dame Stadium to face No. 3 Notre Dame (2-0).

The Spartans enter their first road test of the season after defeating Eastern Michigan 35-7, while the Fighting Irish are coming off a 52-0 shutout of Rice.

Keep an eye on the weather. Rain and potentially wet field conditions could make the running game, turnovers and field position especially important.

The Megaphone Trophy is once again on the line when these programs meet for the first time since 2017.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

MI ALMA HONORS EDUCATORS, ADVOCATES DURING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

LANSING, MI (9-16-26) – Hundreds gathered at VFW Post 701 as Michigan Alianza Latina para Mejoramiento y Avance (MI ALMA) held its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Reception honoring leaders in education, healthcare, public service and community advocacy.

Among those honored were longtime Lansing community advocate Manuel Delgado Sr., Lansing School District Superintendent Jessica Benavides, Everett High School educator Tia Bell, Lansing Latino Health Alliance co-chair Linda Delgado Kipp and State Sen. Darrin Camilleri.

Delgado, who arrived in Lansing in the 1950s, was recognized for decades of community involvement that included building a successful insurance agency and serving on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners. The evening was made even more special as his wife celebrated her birthday.

Benavides delivered a keynote presentation addressing educational challenges and her vision for Lansing School District, while Dr. Rubén Martinez discussed multicultural learning environments and student achievement.

Food for the celebration was provided by Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant on East Michigan Avenue.

LANSING KICKS OFF HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

LANSING, MI (9-15-26) — The City of Lansing kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration at City Hall honoring the history, culture and contributions of the Hispanic community.

Speakers included Mayor Andy Schor, City Councilmember Clara Martinez, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II, Lansing NAACP President James McCurtis Jr. and Elias Lopez, director of Farmworker Student Services at Michigan State University.

Lopez also recognized Greater Lansing’s fundraising efforts to help keep MSU programs serving students from migrant and seasonal farmworker families operating.

MICHIGAN KNOCKS OFF NO. 11 OKLAHOMA, 17-10

ANN ARBOR, MI (9-12-26) — Michigan earned a statement victory at the Big House Saturday, defeating No. 11 Oklahoma, 17-10.

Bryce Underwood ( #19) electrified the Maize Out crowd with a 38-yard touchdown run, while Jyaire Hill ( #0) delivered the defensive play of the game with a fourth-quarter interception that set up Jordan Marshall ( #23)'s go-ahead 1-yard touchdown.

TIGERS DEFEAT ROCKIES 8-1 TO CLOSE FIESTA TIGRES WEEKEND

DETROIT, MI (9-13-26) — Riley Greene ( #31) homered and drove in three runs as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-1 during the second day of Fiesta Tigres at Comerica Park.

Spencer Torkelson ( #20) added a solo home run, while Jackson Jobe ( #21) struck out a career-high eight batters over 6⅓ innings.

The victory completed a three-game sweep of Colorado and extended Detroit’s winning streak to four games.

FIESTA TIGRES BRINGS CULTURE, BASEBALL AND A TIGERS COMEBACK

DETROIT, MI (9-12-26) — Fiesta Tigres brought Latino culture, music, dancing and baseball together Saturday at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers opened the first of two days celebrating the contributions of the Latin American community.

Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres ( #25) was honored during the pregame festivities before Detroit gave the crowd another reason to celebrate.

Trailing Colorado 7-4 entering the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers exploded for seven runs and rallied for an 11-7 victory over the Rockies.
