U.S. COMPLETES COMEBACK TO WIN PRESIDENTS CUP AT MEDINAH

MEDINAH, IL (9-27-26) — The United States entered Sunday trailing the International Team 10½–7½.

It finished the day celebrating.

The Americans dominated Sunday singles to complete the comeback and capture the Presidents Cup 17–13 at Medinah Country Club.

Colombia's Nico Echavarría provided one of Sunday's memorable moments, draining a spectacular 64-foot birdie putt on No. 16 to keep his match against Scottie Scheffler alive.

Scheffler ultimately prevailed 2 and 1.

ONE LAST TIME: VERLANDER'S TIGERS FAREWELL ENDS WITH WALK-OFF WIN

DETROIT, MI (9-26-26) — Justin Verlander ( #35) gave Detroit one final strong performance Saturday, pitching 5⅓ innings with six strikeouts before the Tigers rallied for a dramatic 4-3 walk-off victory over Pittsburgh.

Aaron grew up playing baseball at Shumate Middle School and Gibraltar Carlson High School while watching Verlander pitch for the Tigers. Saturday, he photographed Verlander's final pregame warmup before departing for Ann Arbor to cover Michigan-Iowa.

From watching Verlander as a young baseball player to photographing him one last time, it was a full-circle moment.

U.S. BEGINS PRESIDENTS CUP COMEBACK AT MEDINAH

MEDINAH, IL (9-26-26) — The United States is fighting back.

After entering Saturday trailing 7–3, the Americans won the morning Four-ball session 2½–1½, cutting the International Team’s Presidents Cup lead to 8½–5½.

Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns delivered a dramatic late victory, while Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young also earned a full point for the U.S.

MEDINAH, IL (9-26-26) — La Prensa Latina News Wire is on location at Medinah Country Club as the International Team entered Saturday leading the United States 7–3 in the Presidents Cup.

The International Team swept all five matches Friday, setting up a pivotal Saturday featuring four morning Four-ball matches and four afternoon Foursomes matches.

We’re also following the Colombian and Latino presence throughout the competition, including Nico Echavarría, International Team assistant captain Camilo Villegas and caddies Manuel Villegas and Fabián Azcárate.
Our Saturday started inside the media center before heading onto Course No. 3 to document the players, caddies, fans and atmosphere at Medinah.

ST. JOHNS, MI (9-23-26) – Families gathered at Briggs District Library Wednesday evening for a celebration of Hispanic heritage, culture and community.

The event featured a performance by Greater Lansing Ballet Folklórico, followed by hands-on crafts, family activities and snacks. The evening concluded with a special bilingual storytime in the Children’s Area.

NO. 3 NOTRE DAME PULLS AWAY FROM MICHIGAN STATE, 27-10

SOUTH BEND, IN (9-19-26) – Notre Dame shut out Michigan State in the second half and reclaimed the Megaphone Trophy with a 27-10 victory Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium.

Micah Gilbert ( #14) caught eight passes for a career-high 170 yards, Nolan James Jr. ( #2) rushed for a career-best 121 yards and CJ Carr ( #13) passed for 234 yards before scoring the game’s final touchdown.

Notre Dame’s defense held Michigan State to 40 yards and no rushing yards in the second half. Luke Talich ( #16) and Adon Shuler ( #8) each recorded an interception as the Irish improved to 3-0.

Notre Dame travels to Purdue on Sept. 26.

Warren Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

WARREN, MI (9-19-26) – Music, dancing, traditional foods and community pride filled the Warren City Hall Atrium Saturday during the city’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

Warren Mayor Lori M. Stone and State Rep. Veronica Paiz addressed those attending, while Bill O’Brien of Strangers No Longer also participated in the program.

Entertainment included Chinelos dancers, bachata dancers from Centro Cultural Hispano, Peruvian folklore dancers, ballet folklórico dancers and Mariachi Band 2020.

Stone also issued a mayoral proclamation recognizing September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Warren and honoring the contributions Hispanic and Latino residents make to the city’s neighborhoods, businesses, schools, workplaces and cultural life.

UNDEFEATED SPARTANS AND FIGHTING IRISH MEET TONIGHT IN SOUTH BEND

SOUTH BEND, IN (9-19-26) – One of college football’s historic rivalries returns tonight as Michigan State (2-0) travels to Notre Dame Stadium to face No. 3 Notre Dame (2-0).

The Spartans enter their first road test of the season after defeating Eastern Michigan 35-7, while the Fighting Irish are coming off a 52-0 shutout of Rice.

MI ALMA HONORS EDUCATORS, ADVOCATES DURING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

LANSING, MI (9-16-26) – Hundreds gathered at VFW Post 701 as Michigan Alianza Latina para Mejoramiento y Avance (MI ALMA) held its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Reception honoring leaders in education, healthcare, public service and community advocacy.

Among those honored were longtime Lansing community advocate Manuel Delgado Sr., Lansing School District Superintendent Jessica Benavides, Everett High School educator Tia Bell, Lansing Latino Health Alliance co-chair Linda Delgado Kipp and State Sen. Darrin Camilleri.

Delgado, who arrived in Lansing in the 1950s, was recognized for decades of community involvement that included building a successful insurance agency and serving on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners. The evening was made even more special as his wife celebrated her birthday.

Benavides delivered a keynote presentation addressing educational challenges and her vision for Lansing School District, while Dr. Rubén Martinez discussed multicultural learning environments and student achievement.

Food for the celebration was provided by Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant on East Michigan Avenue.
