Most complete article I could find on this amazing discovery. Alabama family descovers a 32 million year-old leatherback sea turtle fossil while fishing. The strange shaped rock was partially visible on the banks of the water. The 13-year-old drew the family attention to its familiar shape. It is now on display at the. McWane  science center.
30 million years ago Alabama and much of the Gulf Coast was underwater and is part of the fossil forest


The fossil is from a newly discovered genus of leatherback sea turtle and was embedded into limestone.

Come learn about the Pink Meanie Jellyfish species and the post doctoral student confirmed the species and got to name it.

A pink blob floating in the waters off of Alabama catches people’s attention as they walk the beach. The scientific name is Drymonema larsoni, and named by a former DISL post-doctoral student Keith Bayha.
