The ballroom shimmered like a fantasy, but the server stood in the middle feeling completely ignored. She carried a tray of clear glasses past rich men in suits and women wearing pearls, keeping her eyes focused down, her plain gray uniform neat, her struggle hidden behind a polite expression. Then Alex pointed directly at her. He kept one arm around the Lady in Silver, his smile sharp, his tone loud enough for the closest guests to hear. “If you can actually dance, I’ll leave her and marry you tonight.” Low laughter moved through the ballroom. The Lady in Silver leaned against his chest and laughed. “You’re awful, babe.” The server froze. Her hands tightened under the silver tray. For one moment, the room blurred. The chandeliers, the shiny marble floor, the champagne, the beautiful people who never had to fight to be respected. Alex mocked. “What? Too chicken?” The server lifted her gaze. She didnt cry at all. That made him stop smiling. A few minutes later, in the quiet golden hall, Alex stepped closer and placed one hand on her shoulder. “Listen,” he told her softly. “I’ll give you fifty thousand dollars if you accept my dare.” The server glared at him. Fifty thousand. Enough to keep the place. Enough to clear the medical bills. Enough to stop pretending everything was fine. Her hurt turned into something sharper. She smiled. “I agree.” Inside the ballroom, the tune slowed. Then the grand doors opened. And the whole room turned toward the flash of crimson standing in the glow. 👉 Part 2 in the comments
