Here’s the story on Crack head Lainey. A lady (I use the term loosely) posted on our local facebook group that she was rehoming her cockapoo. She stated age and gender but not much else. I browse these sites and sometimes tag rescues or have fostered myself in the past (Buddy) and also adopted my BearBear from it.
I asked if she was spayed and if she was up to date on her vaccines and if she got along with other animals. Basic stuff that would help someone determine if this dog might be a good fit with their family or not. She is NOT spayed nor UTD in Vax. Go figure. I left it at that.
Days later, the post pops up in my feed again with lady stating someone needs to come get this dog or she’s taking her to the pound. Our one and only shelter in our county does not accept owner surrenders and would more than likely put her down immediately. Lainey is only 1 1/2 years old. A baby. I couldn’t let that hapen. I responded and let the owner know that I would be willing to take her to foster or whatever and get her spayed before rehoming. We do not need anyone snagging her up to breed.
She contacted me and said that she’s a great dog but due to recent “changes” in circumstances, Lainey had been p**ping on herself a lot lately so she’s been kept in her crate. In the garage. I went to see her and she was a hot mess.
Lainey was matted to the skin. Had her hair on top of her head in a ponytail but the rubber band was so embedded into the mats you couldn’t even see it. Her hair covered her eyes and she couldn’t see. Mats on her entire body. But what’s most disgusting is that lady barely fed her to minimize her p**p so she was starving! Starving for food and attention!
Yes, I’m disgusted with the owner but I will not turn my anger on her. I’m grateful that she reached out to try to rehome her instead of letting her just continue to suffer. But here’s the worst thing. I’m absolutely horrified that 3 other families had been there to see Lainey. They all left her there!!!! How can they even sleep at night?! Even if they didn’t want to adopt her, they should have taken her and found a rescue to surrender her to.
So, here are some pics of her before grooming. The vet said she needs to gain about 20-30% of her body weight back. She was too tiny for a microchip so we will get that next month at her follow up.
Y’all! Lainey was brought into my life for a reason. With what she’s gone through in her short life, she is the most resilient little thing. Her bravery and willingness to trust in astounding! She is so happy go lucky and plain ole rotten. Hence, the nickname, crack head Lainey. I love her. BearBear loves her. Hudini tolerates her.
I’m keeping her unless the PERFECT family is found.
