It really hurts my heart to see some of the pain that this “community” causes one another. I’m sad that grown adults act anything but kind to each other . . . over chickens. I understand being passionate about it because if you aren’t, then what’s the point?

BUT if you’re hurting people intentionally in the process — I hope you have the day that you deserve. What goes around comes around. It doesn’t cost anything to BE KIND and do the right thing.

Noticing when you’re feeling overwhelmed—or even a little burnt out—isn’t always a bad thing. Life’s been pretty full lately, and I can always tell it’s time to slow down with my birds when the daily chores stop feeling enjoyable, especially in this relentless heat. On top of that, I’ve had a few losses, which has made things feel even heavier.

This year, I haven’t kept much for myself, and that’s okay—numbers aren’t what matter most. I still have my solid foundational birds, and once things don’t feel so weighted, I can ramp things up again. That said, I did keep a few… and when I say a few, I mean exactly *three* pullets for myself from this year’s hatches.

I’m not a huge fan of satin, but a satin frizzle? GIMME! While this handsome little guy isn’t staying with us, we are keeping his brother who has a darker tone 🍊
