Parenting is the hardest, most beautiful, and most humbling job in the world.
And if I could go back and whisper something to my past self—the exhausted, overwhelmed, trying-her-best version of me—here’s what I’d say:
1️⃣ Calm is more powerful than control
2️⃣ Behavior is communication, not defiance
3️⃣ Connection builds cooperation—not compliance
4️⃣ Boundaries create safety, not fear
5️⃣ Big emotions don’t need control
6️⃣ Discipline means to teach, not punish
I used to believe my child was pushing my buttons, purposely misbehaving.
But the truth is → behavior is always communication.
Our little people can’t say, “Mum, I’m overwhelmed. I need your help.” So they show us through whining, crying, hitting, or melting down.
And I used to think being a “good parent” meant staying in control.
But parenting isn’t about control — it’s about guidance.
✨ Guidance builds trust.
✨ Trust builds influence.
✨ Influence carries you through toddlerhood, tween years, and beyond.
If I had known these 6 truths sooner, I would have spent less time reacting… and more time guiding ✨
