Sad news from Five Threads Brewing Company, LLC.: Sunday, Jan. 30 will be your last chance to visit the taproom and stock up on its sours, stouts and beers from its Five Shades of Blonde series.
We're wishing Tim and the Threads crew all the best.

My Dear Thread Heads,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after 6 hard fought years, Five Threads Brewery is closing permanently. Unfortunately we have not been able to scale up our sales fast enough to cover rising expenses and we find ourselves at the end of our funds. We will be open the rest of this week as usual and Sunday, January 30th will be our final day open.

It has been a great journey and I am so happy to have had the chance to meet and share good times and great beer with you. Thank you for all of the support you have provided through the years.

We have been working hard to can up as much of our product as possible so you can stock up on your favorites one last time.

I would be honored to meet you in the tap room to share a pint and reminisce over the coming week and will be present as much as I can to do so.

My plan after closing is to return to the world of biotech and cancer research at least for now. You’ll be the first to know if I or my recipes make a return to the craft beer market in the future.

Thank you once again for the great memories.

Cheers,

Tim Kazules

Same sign, new owners: The Great Central Steak & Hoagie Co in Ventura has reopened after sitting vacant for the last six or seven months of 2020. Its return brings the number of Steak & Hoagies in Ventura County back up to four -- although the separately owned locations tend to have very different menus from each other.

Have you tried the Steak & Hoagies in Port Hueneme, Santa Paula and/or Simi Valley? Which is your favorite?

Café Society: So long, and thanks for all the stories

This page will be changing its name, for reasons mentioned in this column.

In meantime, you'll find me posting as 805foodie on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and, yes, even TikTok (once I get the hang of it). And while that sounds like a full-time job, I hope to slow my roll a bit. At least for now.

You don't need me to tell you these are challenging times, personally and on the global scale. Be good to yourself and to others.

And please: Wear a mask.

My first Café Society column in five months will be my last story for the Ventura County Star after nearly 29 years with the paper.

Know anything about Eggs N Things in Camarillo? They're hauling out all their furniture, hoping it's just a remodel :(
Hi all, With the grocery stores being a bit crazy, out of stock, and requiring leaving the house, I thought I’d share how to eat healthy at home while also supporting a local family restaurant! Mama's Hummus in Newbury Park and Camarillo offer a great way to buy pre-made healthy food. I meal prep every week, and I pick up takeout from mama’s for my meal prep since It’s so easy and yummy and keeps me on track. You can order as many individual kabob skewers as you need, or order the catering size and store it in the fridge. They’ll help you out! They have 8-16oz of tabouli, hummus, garlic sauce, shawarma and more. As well as falafel, cheese rolls, kibbeh, rice, spinach pies, and lentil soup. Simply take it home and portion it out into lunches and dinners! Their sandwiches are delicious as well. It’s a scary time out there with corona virus, and mama’s Hummus is such a CLEAN place taking extra disinfecting and distancing precautions that I have no problem continuing to order from them for myself and the kiddos. They’re doing curb side takeout, door dash, grub hub and postmates! Enjoy and stay safe!
