“The compiler's course is a difficult one. The Scylla of Popularity lures him on the one hand, while the Charybdis of the Classical charms him on the other. He has nothing to steer by but his own good taste, and good taste, alack, is greatly a matter of opinion."
– Carolyn Wells, Book of Humorous Verse

"...When most people talk about knowing somebody a lot or a little, they're talking about secrets they've been told or haven't been told. They're talking about intimate things, family things, love things." – Kurt Vonnegut

Talk about the anxiety you had posting the "Got Feelings" postcards at the local liquor store.

I just spent $450 on marketing addresses geared toward the 55-and-up crowd, nation-wide. While this fills me with apprehension bordering on nail-biting regret, if I can relieve just one person of just an ounce of their burden it will have been well worth it.

Letter to X,

New Blog Post!
https://thelookoutmag.com/f/letter-to-x

- And to all future (sheepish) TLO supporters: I'm so glad you like what I'm doing, what I've gotten myself into; But it is a really big mission, ultimately, and I can't possibly do it alone. I need your help.

For the many who wrestle daily with the greased-up jackal of despair, our hope is that they find within our walls something of a virtual alcoholics anonymous meeting; of the sort which might assist those who at some point in their lifetimes — or points extending — find themselves in the thrall of their own helplessness.

As a Special Thanks to everyone who Liked our FB page...

Here's the most recent entry into the Archive; a mere token of my profound appreciation for all those delicious yet salubrious gobs of gooey, heart-melting love and support y'all keep throwing my way;)

"Account of my morning:
Andy Rush’s TLO entry:
Hit snooze on 5:20 alarm, turned off alarm at 5:38, pulled the curtain across the door a little tighter to keep the morning light low for Libby. Grabbed my clothes from the day before off the top of the dresser, along with a new pair of socks. Went to the kitchen, closed the bedroom door behind me. Dumped my clothes on a chair, leaving my phone on a pile of books I left on the piano for the morning. Went to bathroom, peed, washed hands, face. Dried these before sipping dregs of yesterday’s coffee, dumping dregs in dirty cup I found in the kitchen sink, opened up thermos of cowboy coffee I made the night before and poured a cup. Ate overnight-soaked grain and raisin mash seasoned with cayenne and fennel seeds. Read some of book, Revolution in Rojava, speed reading through histories of genocide to get to the parts where real people speak, relaying their experience, and to get to the parts where interactions are described, negotiations played out, inferences made. Checked social media for no reason in particular. Esther came down, went to bathroom, got breakfast.
Self-Criticisms:
1. I find it hard to pay attention to people explicitly without feeling creepy or like a judging self-appointed authority; like unexpressed demands are lurking behind the gift of my complete attention. A gross power thing.
2. I find it difficult to live with myself as a twilit zombie, pursuing the “action-item list” on my phone or in my head while ignoring the real world in which people depend on me for a certain amount of attention, validation and support. I can feed the projected hunger of strangers with a tap of my thumbs, but I cannot soothe real suffering two feet away...

To us, the future is eternally off topic; Our question is, How may we improve The Present?

Submission Insecurities?

Our happiness is not dependent upon your happiness. But it is immeasurably enhanced by it.

My oldest recently opined that perhaps I haven't really been all that clear as to what I want in a submission. This could be a good thing (by design - Ha!), or this could be a very bad thing. To make a case for the bad, ...
