Diocese of Ga***rd’s vocation numbers tell a familiar story. They are still waiting for their first new priest in *SIX YEARS**, with a small handful of men in formation, and a goal of 15 remaining out of reach.

In the meantime the bishop has issued decrees that limit ad orientem on Sundays and holy days and forbid pastors from restricting altar servers or lectors to males.

Restrict the concrete markers of Catholic identity and the results tend to look like this. I’ve been around the 🇺🇸 in various dioceses and the obdurance of our ordinaries to seeing ‘the fruits of Vatican II 🍇’ in their areas of authority are something beyond description.
If an ordinary intentionally wanted to undermine and demolish ultimately the Catholic presence in a place, would the results look different ??

Either Aquinas was right that murder can forfeit a man’s own life, or he wasn’t. Most reasonable people across history, Catholic or no, have held some death penalty to be JUST.

Should make us pause.

The State exists to serve *the human person*, not the other way around. Common good is not an excuse to sacrifice individual dignity to collective power. Gov’t must protect fundamental rights, uphold justice and safeguard peace.
