Juniper Rag is a curatorial project of Atelier ID Global that I share with my partner Payal Thiffault. Over the past several months, we have selected powerful art from area artists for Spectrum, who just acquired 20 pieces by artists that answered a call-for-art, Artists Touched by Addiction.
Our recent collaboration with Spectrum Health Systems has been a very powerful and deeply meaningful experience for both parties and for all 18 of the artists who have been acquired. When people, who are also artists communicate openly—through their art and vulnerable conversation, especially about something as personal and transformative as addiction, recovery, and their own lives—the results can be profound. We are seeing first hand, that they are just immeasurable. I am personally so proud of what Juniper Rag/Atelier has done here for the Spectrum community and for these artists. Acquisitions like this have ripple effects and begin dialogues.
Art itself is a language and has a way of translating personal experiences into visuals that resonate universally. In this case, the process of acquisition is not just about placing art in a business; it’s about embedding stories, emotions, and healing into a space. We are witness to a business aligning their acquisition with their mission and lived experiences. This effort creates an environment of empathy, awareness, and connection for the artists, the the business and all visitors.
The artists involved submitted work in relation to a call for art entitled "Artists Touched by Addiction". Spectrum's shared vision was to ask the local community to share work from their individual perspective to assemble a collection by and for the Worcester community where Spectrum's new offices are located at 1023 Main Street.
Addiction touches all of us. Artists truly committed to sharing their personal stories, some speaking about their experiences for the first time in 50 years. Art heals and the collaborative magic just keeps coming. Juniper Rag is so honored to embark on this journey with Spectrum Health Systems, Inc.
Thank you to all the artists that submitted work to this call. I am so grateful to Lisa Blanchard for her vision and recommendation.
