Your feelings don’t matter! That is, your subjective feeling of the effectiveness of a workout is not important as what science tells us is important to building an impressive base of endurance and changing your body composition.

Take common HIIT (high intensity interval training) for example. It usually leaves people on the floor in a pool of sweat feeling as if they have accomplished a great workout. In this article, I propose a smarter way of training, which should have a greater effect on endurance and long-term body composition effects. This high-intensity repeat training (HIRT) may not ‘feel’ as good, but your feelings don’t matter...

So to get the most out of your practice: keep your sets short, focus on powering the bell into a nice easy float with a relaxed face, neck, and grip, and STOP your set before that power begins to drop.

Here's something cool for you guys. (And please do not try this at home unless you are *very* accomplished with these skills.) Our Master Instructors, like Doug Nepodal here, often have very clever ways of making a point about technique. "Taming the arc" is crucial for the kettlebell clean and snatch, and catching the bell in this manner would be impossible if Doug wasn't taming its arc properly. You see that the bell's path is directed upward, not outward. It's close and controlled. \m/ Enjoy.
