I’ve always imagined wine tasting in Bordeaux would be intimidating… full of people swirling glasses, using words I didn’t understand, and judging anyone who just wanted a nice glass of wine.

The reality couldn’t have been more different.

I met some of the warmest, funniest and most welcoming people, tasted incredible wines in places I never expected, and discovered that Bordeaux wine tourism is all about having fun. I drank wine in a treehouse, met truffle dogs, wandered through vineyards filled with modern art, spotted plenty of quirky gnomes, and laughed far more than I expected.

And the biggest surprise? It wasn’t expensive. The average bottle of Bordeaux wine costs around €8, proving you don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy one of the world’s greatest wine regions.

Frida: The Making of an Icon is the first major Frida Kahlo exhibition in the UK in more than 20 years. Running from 25 June 2026 until 3 January 2027, it explores not only Kahlo’s extraordinary paintings but also how she became one of the world’s most influential cultural icons.
The exhibition brings together more than 130 works, including paintings, photographs, sculpture, personal memorabilia and works by artists inspired by Kahlo. One of the highlights is the fascinating “Fridamania” section, which explores how her image has become a global phenomenon across fashion, design and popular culture.
