John Lewis has just launched Platter 🍕

The Oxford Street flagship has an open kitchen making pizza with hand-stretched dough, a made-on-site deli, a full dessert parlour, and even its own in-house coffee roastery — I turned mine into an espresso martini ☕🍸

Top it off with a glass of English sparkling wine from Silverhand and the fifth-floor terrace looking straight out over Oxford Street, and this doesn’t feel like a department store food hall anymore.

📍 Platter, John Lewis Oxford Street

London’s cathedral of sewage 🚂✨

Crossness Pumping Station doesn’t look like much from the outside. Step into the Octagon and it’s a different story — soaring arches, colourful Victorian ironwork, and giant restored beam engines. It’s easy to see why they call it a cathedral.

What’s on site 👇
🚽 The Great Stink exhibition — original Victorian WCs, including a Thomas Crapper toilet
🎬 A 15-min film on why London desperately needed this place
⚙️ A working model showing exactly where it all goes
🪖 Hard hats on for the boiler room — a filming location favourite
☕ On-site café for sandwiches and coffee
📍 Bazalgette Way, Abbey Wood, SE2 9AQ
🚇 Nearest station: Abbey Wood — then a 30-min walk or ~5 min Uber

Not typical to find great Asian food in Shepherd’s Bush — but Mr Dumpling on Goldhawk Road is proving

Buns, potstickers, dumplings, are all handmade in an open kitchen in front of you. I started with the beef steamed buns (soft, pillowy, gone in two bites), then the prawn and chive potstickers — crack them open and enjoy the delicious filling, all wrapped up in a delicious sauce. The prawn, egg and chive dumplings came next, swimming in a garlic-heavy sauce, so soft and fluffy. Ordered more than I could finish (as always) — they just box it up for you.

📍 Mr Dumpling, 10-12 Goldhawk Rd, London W12 8DH — just south of Shepherd’s Bush Green
🕚 Open daily, no bookings taken so allow a little time for a wait
💷 Around £20–30 per person
