A lot of what helps autistic kids isn’t about stricter rules.

It’s about understanding how their nervous system works.

Autistic brains process the world differently.
Sounds can feel louder.
Transitions can feel abrupt.
Expectations can feel overwhelming.

When a child is overwhelmed, the goal isn’t control.

The goal is regulation.

That’s why support often looks like:

• Meeting them where they are, not where we think they should be
• Choosing connection over correction
• Co-regulating first so the nervous system can settle

When a child feels safe, understood, and supported, their brain can shift out of survival mode.

And that’s when real learning, communication, and growth become possible.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply remember:

They’re not giving you a hard time.
They’re having a hard time.

Two feral gremlins and a busted-ass teen.
We’re two hours into Day 2 and this already feels like a documentary about bad decisions.
The GPS is begging us to turn around, the cabin smells like snacks and regret, and the newly-awake teenager is silently drafting a memoir.

We were filming an update about needing gas for the car…

when suddenly the entire vehicle smelled like someone s**t themselves.

Accusations were immediate.
Evidence was limited.
The teenager was unconscious.

The investigation began.

Less than two hours into a 14-hour road trip…

• D gets stung by a bee on the ear
• emergency Benadryl stop
• emergency bathroom stop
• teenager currently knocked out in the back seat

And we still have 12+ hours to go.

This trip is already legendary.
