In August, we published our newest online journal “Bloom”! We were delightfully surprised to see authors bring their own twists to the theme: some stories rooted in nature while others blossoming with metaphor. After finishing each one, we lingered in the worlds these writers created, stunned by the creativity.

Caradoc Gayer’s “All of the City Lights” is one of those stories. With its dreamy atmosphere and a gentle blurring between reality and reverie, we were hooked from the first paragraph. Get to know Caradoc and explore the magic behind his writing process!

Today, we’re thrilled to bring you this powerful essay from Rebecca D. Martin. One of Rebecca’s water bottles bears an Annie Dillard quote: “She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.” In this essay, a book character created by Louise Erdrich charts a tender path through major life changes for both Rebecca and her teenage daughter.

To celebrate Dandelion Revolution Press’s fifth anniversary, we’re running the essay series “In Her Words: Celebrating Women in Literature” throughout 2025. We’re seeking personal essays recognizing women authors and/or characters that have impacted your life.

Our Summer 2025 issue “Bloom” is published! These pieces showcase women characters and narrators who shine in their complexities–bold, flawed, and unapologetically themselves. Women who weren’t afraid of the raw, real, and edgy side of growth.

You can find the full PDF issue on our website, and we’re sharing individual pieces weekly on our SubStack. We opened our issue with a gorgeous poem by Melissa Anderson, who reminds us that “not all blooming is loud.”

The theme allowed us to select stories that explored personal evolution, resilience, and embracing new beginnings. We continue to showcase women characters and narrators who shine in their complexities–bold, flawed, and unapologetically themselves. Women who weren’t afraid of the raw, real, and edgy side of growth.

We chose pieces from global contributors who have interpreted the theme in distinctive styles, genres, and voices. Our creative nonfiction features insightful essays centered on real-life experiences.

Today, we’re honored to share an essay by Jaleh Sadravi. Jaleh is a multi-ethnic artist and writer whose work explores identity, transformation, and the quiet power of creative resistance. In this reflection on Octavia Butler’s Dawn, she considers what it means to bend without breaking, to lead without dominance, and to imagine otherwise.
