Ron’s Ribs began in 1984 on South Street, as the newest addition to a history of black-owned barbeque restaurants. Although Ron’s Ribs closed in 2010, Ron’s Signature Sauce is still going strong, and his legacy of delicious flavors and the best rib sauce around lives on!

This National BBQ Day, Ron’s Signature Sauce is celebrating more than wings. This moment is about legacy, friendship, family, and flavor.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Pete’s Famous Pizza will be serving wings with Ron’s Signature Sauce in honor of National BBQ Day and Ronald K. Washington’s birthday.

This collaboration is personal. The Washington brothers and Peter go back to middle school, where Brandon Washington and Pete became best friends. Over the years, Pete also came to know their father, Ron Washington, making this partnership even more meaningful.

Seeing Ron’s Signature Sauce featured at Pete’s Famous Pizza is a full circle moment for the Washington family and a special way to honor the man, the flavor, and the legacy behind the sauce.

A Philadelphia South Street Tradition Lives On.

Before Ron’s Ribs, 1627 South Street was home to generations of Black-owned BBQ excellence, from Bea Bea & Lester’s Lawnside to Miss Bea’s legendary bottled hot sauce in the 50s and 60s. In 1984, Ronald K. Washington carried that torch and built Ron’s Ribs into a Philly staple, cementing its place in the city’s culture, flavor and food scene.
Now, that story takes center stage.

“Smoke & Fire” is a documentary premiere exploring the life and legacy of Ronald K. Washington and the impact of Ron’s Ribs — paired with a curated 5-course BBQ tasting inspired by the tradition he helped continue. There’s no better way to cap off black history month than being in an intimate evening blending film, flavor, and conversation around culture, craftsmanship, and Black Culinary history.

From South Street to your dinner table, the mission remains the same: honor the past, preserve the flavor, and push the legacy forward.
