County to Distribute Free COVID Test Kits in Hilltown

The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency and county Department of Health will distribute free COVID-19 rapid tests to Bucks residents at a drive-through distribution site at Calvary Church, 820 Souderton Road, Hilltown Township (enter from Route 113) on Jan 24 and Jan. 3.

The site will operate from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., or until the supply of tests is exhausted. Tests will only be distributed at one site each day.

Each vehicle in attendance will be provided a maximum of four tests.

These sites are only for distribution of COVID-19 antigen tests. Staff at these sites will not be administering any COVID-19 tests.

Vaccines will not be available at these sites. To find a vaccine clinic near you visit buckscounty.gov/vaccines.

Bucks EMA is anticipating a high volume of traffic at the distribution sites. Anyone coming to a drive-through site should be prepared to wait in line for some time before receiving tests.

In the event of inclement weather, distribution sites may be closed or delayed. Check buckscounty.gov for cancellation notices.

Tests will also be available on Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the parking lot of Sesame Place, 100 Sesame Road, Middletown Township (enter from North Bucks Town Dr.). This site will also operate Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.

Another will be open Thursday, Jan. 20, at Warminster Park, 1100 Veterans Way, Warminster Township (enter from Veterans Way). This site will also open Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.

Bucks DA Calls for Public's Help in Finding Missing Local Men

Calling the abrupt disappearance of two Bucks County men “extraordinary,” the Bucks County District Attorney’s office Wednesday called on the public to help locate the men, missing since Oct. 15.

Michael Allen Stark, 47, and Matthew James Branning, 50, were reported missing when Branning’s family told authorities he didn’t come home from his job in Silverdale, where he had worked for nine years.
Authorities believe one, or both, of the men may be traveling in Branning’s 2002 silver Lexus SUV.

“We are pleading for your help. We don’t want this case to go too cold,” said Bucks DA Matt Weintraub. He encouraged anyone with information to call Bucks County detectives at 215-348-6056 or contact them via bucksda.org. Perkasie police can be reached at 215-247-6876.

Any information is welcome, the DA said. “Let us be the judge of the information,” he added. “We‘d like to bring both men home.”

Weintraub said Stark is “a person of interest” in the case. An all-state extradition has been issued for him and if he is stopped anywhere in the U.S. he will be arrested, Weintraub said. Stark failed to appear for a court appearance in Monroe County.

The DA said he could not comment on any prior criminal record of Stark’s.

Stark was last positively identified Nov. 13 at Garden City Pawn Shop at 3255 Ford Road in Michigan, said authorities.

Branning’s family told police there “was no explanation” for his disappearance and it was “out of his character” for him not to return home.
Weintraub said it’s very rare for two people with no other connection than working at the same place to go missing. “It’s disturbing to me. It’s like they ceased to exist.”

Perkasie Urges Property Owners to Be Prepared for Road Repairs

PennDOT recently announced plans to bring much-needed improvements to the state-owned sections of N. 5th Street and W. Market Street in Perkasie Borough. The work is tentatively scheduled for 2024.

Property owners on the affected sections of N. 5th St and W. Market St are advised that curbs, sidewalks and driveway aprons will need to meet the specifications in Perkasie Borough Code in advance of PennDOT’s resurfacing project. Borough administration has sent a written notice to property owners on the following roads to advise them of the project timelines and their responsibilities with regard to curb, sidewalk, and apron remediation.

‱ N 5th Street from W. Blooming Glen Drive /Borough Line to W. Market Street
‱ W. Market Street from N 7th Street to N. Ridge Road

The Borough will conduct inspections of curbs, sidewalks, and driveway aprons along in the spring of 2022, then send out detailed inspection reports to property owners where the curb, sidewalk or driveway requires repair or replacement. Property owners who elect to use a private contractor will need to complete repairs by July 2023. Property owners who elect to use the Borough’s contractor can expect to see the work completed during the summer of 2023.

The Borough will offer a financing plan for those who participate in the Borough’s repair program in 2023. An estimate of the costs of having the Borough do the work and more information about the financing plan will be sent to property owners this summer.

The borough said it is providing advance notice of this project because of the number of properties involved, the lead time it may take property owners to obtain quotes and schedule work, and because many of the affected properties have substantial road frontage and the cost of bringing curbs, sidewalks and aprons into compliance could be significant.

A complete copy of the Borough’s Specifications for Reconstruction and/or Repair of Curb and Sidewalks can be found on the Borough website https://perkasieborough.org/code-of-ordinances/, or is available at Perkasie Borough Hall, 620 W. Chestnut St. A copy of the letter to residents can be found at https://perkasieborough.org/state-roads-within-borough-limits/

Questions about the Curb & Sidewalk project on PA SR4039 may be directed to Perkasie Borough’s Public Works Director at (215)257-6860.

Excellent story by former News Herald sports editor Paul Vigna about the remarkable transformation of Bishop Estate Vineyard and Winery.

The property has been in the Bishop family for a century. A few years ago, Cindy and Kevin Bishop decided to plant grapes and open a winery. There is plenty of space to sit around and socialize, both inside the tasting barn or on the spacious grounds.
