Former Vice President and 2024 hopeful Mike Pence experiences eventful week following Trump's indictment

While it marked a "very sad day" for former President Donald Trump, another GOP presidential candidate seized the full advantage of the week's events and the ensuing spotlight.

Former Vice President Mike Pence stands as a pivotal figure in the latest indictment against Trump, who made a Thursday appearance in Washington, D.C., pleading not guilty to charges alleging his involvement in conspiring to manipulate the 2020 election. This marks Trump's third and potentially gravest indictment thus far.

Pence's 2024 campaign has been encumbered by single-digit polling figures since his June bid announcement, trailing significantly behind Trump and other contenders. Moreover, he remains absent from the lineup of the first debate among GOP presidential candidates, scheduled for later this month in Milwaukee. Pence still falls short of the 40,000 unique donors mandated by the Republican National Committee.

However, this week saw intensified focus on the former vice president, as Pence took on his former boss and the 2024 GOP frontrunner in his most assertive manner yet.

A "gaggle of crackpot lawyers"
Much like his fellow Republicans on the campaign trail, Pence has skillfully navigated the line between addressing Trump while avoiding alienation of the significant voter base supporting the former president.

But Pence made his opposition crystal clear Wednesday to a group of reporters in Indianapolis, following the indictment news from the previous day. Pence stated that he upheld the Constitution on January 6, 2021, and had no authority to overturn the 2020 presidential election, despite Trump's "reckless assertion" that he could accept or reject results during the certification process on that day.

“What the president maintained that day, and frankly, has said over and over again over the last two and a half years, is completely false,” Pence emphasized. “And it’s contrary to what our Constitution and the laws of this country provide.”

Yet Pence directed some of his most stringent critique towards Trump's legal team.

“Sadly, the president was surrounded by a group of crackpot lawyers who kept telling him what his itching ears wanted to hear,” he expressed.

Pence also took to X, formerly Twitter, to reaffirm his condemnation of Trump and “his gaggle of crackpot lawyers” for urging him to reject electoral votes on January 6, 2021.

“To keep faith with the oath that I made to the American people and to Almighty God, I did my duty that day,” Pence asserted.

Pence's campaign seizes the news spotlight
The Pence campaign ingeniously capitalized on the fresh attention, introducing hats and T-shirts labeled "Too Honest" on his campaign site Thursday, referencing an incident detailed in the indictment.

In a January 2021 phone call between the two, Trump "berated" Pence for stating there was no constitutional foundation for the vice president to reject electoral votes during the certification of results, according to the indictment.

who is ahead in Trump-Biden race to the White House?

Suppose there are no significant disruptions or any legal obstacles. In that case, it appears imminent that Joe Biden, the presidential Democratic candidate, has more chances of attaining the winning goal of 270 electoral votes than Donald Trump.

Trump is relying on Florida and Pennsylvania to get re-elected For the next four years.

Biden would have to win back the three states where Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a narrow margin. Those three states are Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

If Biden wins all of the states where Hillary won in 2016, he would comfortably touch 270, winning in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

In Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, Trump defeated Hillary by a narrow margin in 2016. Biden would have to score just 1 point better than Clinton in 2016.

In 2016, Trump won in several states with a narrow margin. These states have presently become important again. These states and their electoral votes are - Arizona (11), Texas (38), Georgia (16), Nevada (6), North Carolina (15), Iowa (6), Ohio (18).

Trump, who moved his official residence from Democratic-ruled New York to Florida last year, will have to find a way to win Florida's 29 electoral votes. If Trump manages to win Pennsylvania and Florida, he still will have to win most of the states he had won back in 2016; then, only he can reach the majority mark of 270.

Texas, a Republican stronghold for decades, is also now changing its color. The Biden-Kamala Harris duo is leading in the state. Biden's victories in Iowa, Georgia and Ohio, which Trump won in 2016, can take the Democrats' number to 300.

A new survey by RealClear Politics puts Biden ahead of trumps in 6 major states. These six states are - Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and North Carolina.

Total 2020 election spending to hit nearly $14 billion.

The 2020 U.S. general election is by far the costliest in history. According to data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) collected by Opensecrets.org , around $ 14 billion in spending had already been recorded for the entire 2020 electoral cycle as of October 29.

Much of this spending can be attributed to the many (and wealthy) Democratic primary candidates, including billionaires Michael Bloomberg.and Tom Steyer.

Erdogan called Putin Turkey's "red line" in the Caucasus.

Barcelona Historic loss since 1946, Crushed by Bayern Munich in the Quarterfinal

In a complete disaster, Barcelona lost 2-8 to Bayern Munich in a champions league.

At the time when Barcelona announced their Lineups for this game, the fans started questioning the decision as throughout these last few days its been talked about how Barcelona needs to adapt and attack the High defensive line of Bayern Munich and for that purpose, Barcelona needs to bring in players Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati but when the lineups were announced the only attacking players that Barcelona had were Suarez and Leonel Messi.

Analysis of the game

In the first half when Barcelona was attacking all of the attention and all of the passes were going to Luis Saurez and he was put in a position where he had to attack at open spaces but unfortunately, Suarez does not have the athleticism to attack those open spaces and then every time when Vidal, Sergio Roberto, Semedo and Messi were putting out the ball it was going to Luis Saurez but he could not Capitalize on it, that was enough to understand how Quique Setien has got the line-up wrong by excluding Dembele who has signed a five-year contract with Barcelona for a whopping 105 million euros.

Bayern did leave spaces behind as expected but Barcelona had no players to run through those spaces, Jordi Alba and Vidal were not quick enough, in fact, it got so bad throughout the first half that it got even to a moment where Messi had to look for Lenglet multiple times either through a set piece or a corner kick.

Bayern Munich totally suffocated Barcelona’s player from the midfield to the defense, it seemed Bayern Munich knew exactly what Barcelona’s kryptonite was and that was to suffocate their players and force the mistakes out of them, and this is exactly what everyone saw as their players were making silly mistakes in the first half where it ended at 4-1. They scored the first four goals without Lewandowski who is considered Bayern Munich’s star player

It looked like that Barcelona has still not recovered from Anfield, where they lost to Liverpool and were eliminated from the champions league, as it looked like a repeat of whatever happened last year, again the mistakes were coming from Sergio Roberto, Nelson Semedo, Jordi Alba, It seemed Barcelona players were not able to absorb the pressure and intensity that Bayern Munich did bring into the game as a team.

Barcelona’s Defense was also a total embarrassment for the club, it seemed like they were totally nervous and did not know what to do, they were doing all kind of ridiculous mistakes,

Going into the second half Sergio Roberto was not doing anything nor defensively neither offensively so Griezmann came in to defend but still, Barcelona lacked the players in the midfield to feed the balls to Luis Saurez or Leonel Messi, Barcelona continued to make mistakes throughout the second half as well, in the last 10 minutes Coutinho came in for Bayern Munich and in those 10 minutes he scored two goals, it was a total disaster for Barcelona, Bayern Munich moves into the semi-finals as they were the better team yesterday out of the two.

Barcelona ended their 2020 season without a trophy, Barcelona’s Coach Quique Setien and other staff have been criticized for not doing his homework properly. The Updated reports suggest that Barcelona has already sacked coach Quique Setien, According to ESPN they have also stated that Barcelona is now looking for other coaches, The 61-year-old Setien was only appointed in January, earlier this year

After the Match Setian told reporters, “Right now we feel enormous frustration and all we can do is make conclusions and think about the future,” he said after the match.

Barca is a club that is so great that this will cause us a lot of damage and obviously some things will have to change. The truth is this is a tremendously painful defeat.
