Happy Birthday Etta James!
Her gospel-style music and iconic soulful voice have made her quite the household name. Songs such as "I'd Rather Go Blind" and " At Last" made her a Grammy Award winner several times and earned her a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
A talented singer since she was 5 years old, Etta James had her big break in the 1960s when she signed with Chicago's Chess Records. She made such chart-toppers as "All I Could Do Was Cry," "At Last" and "Trust in Me."
She eventually earned her first Grammy nomination in 1973 for her album Etta James. After Chess Records, she signed with Warner Brothers Records where she made such albums as Deep In The Night and Seven Year Itch.
She continued to perform throughout the 90s and early 2000s producing more albums and performing live for her adoring fans. Her final album, The Dreamer, was released in 2011.
She passed away shortly after in 2012 due to the effects of leukemia, hepatitis C, and dementia.
