Before The Internet Raised Us

Before The Internet Raised Us Growing up in the 80s & 90s, plus the memories around it. Cartoons, cassette tapes, school days, malls, landlines, VHS nights, and life before WiFi.

That screen door slam was part of the soundtrack of childhood. 😂
You could be outside playing, running in for a drink, running back out again and every single time that door hit like thunder.

And somebody in the house was always yelling, “Don’t let that door slam!”

Mom’s purse was basically a portable house. Need a tissue? She had it. Gum? She had it. A pen, a receipt from 1987, candy, coupons, medicine, or something completely random? Also in there. That purse was not a purse. It was an emergency command center.

Before streaming, watching TV required commitment. 😂
You checked the TV Guide, found your show, remembered the time, and made sure you were sitting in front of the TV before it started.

No pause. No rewind. No “watch later.”

If you missed it, you just had to hear about it from somebody else.

That cookie tin had us fooled every single time. 😂
You opened it thinking you were about to get a snack and instead it was thread, buttons, needles, and somebody’s emergency sewing kit. Every house had one.

There was regular cleaning… and then there was company is coming cleaning. 😂
The whole house changed in twenty minutes. Pillows got fluffed, toys got shoved somewhere random, the bathroom got wiped down, and suddenly the living room became a museum.
You didn’t even know who was coming, you just knew to move fast.

Anybody else grow up in a house with “the good dishes” that were basically untouchable? They stayed in the cabinet looking important while everybody else used the regular plates. 😂

The Sunday newspaper was not just a newspaper, it was an entire weekend activity. 😂
Coupons for the grown-ups, comics for the kids, sports pages, TV listings, sale ads, classifieds… that thing had more sections than some websites do now.
Before scrolling, we flipped pages.

Before social media, the front porch was where all the updates happened. You didn’t need an app to know what was going on, you just had to sit outside long enough. 😂

If you were ever a little short on money, the car ashtray was somehow the backup plan. 😂
Coins, wrappers, a random button and somehow it still felt useful.

That little thermos really had us believing it could do anything. Soup, juice, warm mystery liquid… we never knew what would be inside, we just hoped for something good! 😂
