Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, #PhillyStories is back with "Hair Appointments for Josie", "Crop Circles" and "Los Trabajadores-CATA" - only on PhillyCAM TV (phillycam.org/watch)

"Hair Appointments for Josie", directed by Nicole Keating, is a compelling short film that focuses on Josie Wierzbicki, a lively, 75-year-old South Philadelphia woman who tells the story of her life to her hairdresser while getting her hair done. The filmmaker explores the meaning of this ritual for women in their "golden years", who often continue to visit beauty salons regularly despite strong social messages that they are no longer considered beautiful.

"Crop Circles", produced by Big Tea Party, is a documentary that digs into Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), a growing trend taking root across the country, committed to bringing back old ways of connecting people to farms and farmers.

"Los Trabajadores-CATA", produced by Scribe Video Center in partnership with El Comite de Apoyo a Los Trabajadores Agricolas (CATA), tells the stories and day-to-day experiences of mushroom farm laborers from Kennett Square and Reading, and examines their efforts to improve working and living conditions through organizing.

Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, #PhillyStories is back with "All Items $1", "Lunch Cart", and "City Halls 2.1.5" - only on PhillyCAM TV (phillycam.org/watch)

"All Items $1", directed by Shakti Jaising, is the story of a low-income neighborhood bordering Temple University in North Philadelphia, a once-prosperous blue-collar neighborhood that rapidly deteriorated in the early 1960's, told through oral accounts provided by a local dollar store owner and two residents who shop there.

"Lunch Cart", directed by Kevin Diehl, reveals a patchwork of lives in transition and often on the mend. It tells the story of new immigrants arriving in America, a vast majority seek safe haven from the political oppression and economic hardship of their native countries.

"City Halls 2.1.5", directed by Michael O’Reilly, follows O'Reilly as he uses proprietary software to makes meaning out the discarded, releasing each art piece as an iteration of a growing whole. Each City Halls piece is like a bucket full of words, music and images, drawn from an ever deepening well of media.

Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, #PhillyStories is back with "I Choose to Stay Here", "Peace in the Goodlands" and "Westside Store" - only on PhillyCAM TV (phillycam.org/watch)

I Choose to Stay Here, directed by Barry Dornfeld and Debora Kodish, follows a group of people opposing the city of Philadelphia's "takings' ' of private homes: the little-known downside of the city's "redevelopment" initiative.

Peace In the Goodlands, produced by Scribe Video Center in partnership with Centro Nueva Creacion, honors residents of Philadelphia's West Kensington neighborhood who are redefining their community as a place of peace.

Westside Store, directed by Amiram Amitai, follows The Seveners, a tough group of inner city teenagers, who have directed their energy towards constructive self-enterprise in a second hand business. With the help of a local businessman, their enterprise evolved from the selling of recycled items to the opening of their own store.

Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, #PhillyStories is showing classics: "Crosstown", "Loqueesha Franklin Jose Brown", and "SK8 B-Lo I-95" - only on PhillyCAM TV (phillycam.org/watch)

"Crosstown", directed by Miriam Camitta, is a story that cuts across time, gender, race and economics. Set in South Philadelphia during the 1950s and 1960s, it focuses on the reaction of a diverse group of people to a proposal to build an expressway through South Street.

"Loqueesha Franklin Jose Brown", directed by Nadine Patterson, is a collaboration among Philadelphia's finest artists; poet Ursula Rucker, filmmaker Nadine Patterson and music composer/producer Rob Yancey that results in the creation of a soundscape of poetic imagery set to Ursula Rucker's provocative meditation on a child growing up in Philadelphia.

"SK8 B-Lo I-95", produced by Big Tea Party, is about how skateboarders and Philadelphia's city government collaborated to create the world famous skate park, Philly Side, located in a corner of FDR Park in South Philadelphia.

Today is a special day for me and I hope that you will lend your support in this special moment. At the end of 2019 I was purposely driven to voice my opinion about a pandemic that I saw adversely affecting women, girls, and boys; human and s*x trafficking. Did Philadelphia, PA really become a hub for traffickers to pick mostly children and women off the streets of Philadelphia? Was this really happening? Well, there were plenty of signs that it was really happening, but yet, I did not see any public awareness campaigns in Philly to warn the most vulnerable about this egregious act, but I kept hearing about missing people AND I did personally experience being scouted on the Market Street El Train. Long story short, I started a company, yes a company, called "Women Against Human Trafficking, Inc. with the purpose of public awareness around safety and human trafficking. At this point, I am testing the waters to see where this can go, and my first Zoom meeting May of 2020 there were over 225 people from around the country attended and many attendees requested a "Certificate of Training" for attending because I was told it was the best training that they had received in the industry. Who knew. Then as soon as I thought I was picking up speed/growing, FB's algorithms put us in FB jail for “public awareness” as well as until this day, I am not allowed to advertise on FB, and FB won’t fan out our info when posted, so our reach has been very organic which is working fine. We can not do FB Lives either. So, I put a website (www.wahtusa.com) as a holding place for our Blog as well as to capture email addresses. (I know I need a better website 😊) The aforementioned really got on my nerve, so if there is a will, there is a way. I decided to take the passion of Women Against Human Trafficking (the stories and public awareness around s*x and human trafficking) to public tv, beginning today at 11:30am. Every Thursday at 11:30am beginning today. I hope you will join me as the topics are imperative and my guests are the industries best at what they do. The show is where purpose, passion and solutions will drive the content. Pass the word. Watch the show. Be a guest. Discover you purpose, your passion and a solution that helps others live and grow better. – Bev Chandran #WomenAgainstHumanTrafficking #wahtphlly #thebevchandranshow #humantraffickingawareness #SafetyFirst #SeeSomethingSaySomething #wahtusa
