Please read:
Sometime between **6 PM Thursday and 2:30 AM Friday**, someone apparently found it acceptable to **open the back gate of our property, enter the gated area, and take our donut display pictured here.
Edited to add: no one entered building. Whomever opened gate, walked into gated area and grabbed. These were in back gated area because our 13 yr old was pressure washing on Friday and they needed to be cleaned.
Some may think, βItβs just a donut display.β And yes, it is a displayβbut that is not the point.
Entering someoneβs property and taking something that does not belong to you is theft. It is also a violation of privacy and, quite frankly, incredibly disheartening in this small town.
We have always tried to give people the benefit of the doubt and have placed a great deal of trust in the community. Never did I think someone would actually open our back gate, enter the gated area, and help themselves to something that belongs to us.
Unfortunately, this isnβt the first incident.
A couple months ago, around 2 AM, an intoxicated man took planters from the front of our bakery. My husband actually chased him down and recovered them. Since then, we have removed our planters altogether. Why continue putting time, money, and effort into making our property look nice when people think it is acceptable to take or destroy it?
If you happen to see our donut display around townβor appearing on the usual social media sites as some kind of joke or attempt to mock usβplease return it.
I hope this also opens some eyes:
**Theft is theft. Taking someone elseβs property, regardless of its value or what you personally think of it, is theft.
And yes, **we have cameras.** SMILE :)
We will be going through the footage. However, we are also a busy, well-known bakery and today, we have baking and a business to run. Reviewing hours of camera footage will take some time.
Once we locate the footage and identify the person who entered our property and took the display, we will have it.
I would much rather have the display quietly returned and save everyone the embarrassment of having to post surveillance footage publicly.
Please just return what does not belong to you.
Edited for correct times.
