WKDU Philadelphia 91.7 FM is Drexel University's award winning college radio station. We are operated by Drexel University students, with several Drexel alumni serving as on-air DJs. We are the only free-format non-commercial radio station in Philadelphia. Our transmitter is located on the roof of Van Rensselaer Hall in Powelton Village, and our studio is located in the basement of the Creese Student Center.

HEAVY METAL GIVEAWAY 🤘

If you love metal, you already know that Crypt Sermon is one of the best bands in the city. Heavy beyond heavy and with riffs for days, this is everything you want from doom! The five piece have been around for more than a dozen years and played with so many of the greats. They even got to open for Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden recently, which is just so sick.

Next Thursday they are headlining Underground Arts alongside Mammoth Grinder and Switchblade. We are stoked to be able to give away TWO PAIRS of tickets to this show! Tag a friend and you are entered. Leave as many comments as you’d like. We will pick a winner Wednesday night at 8pm.

⏰🔔 GIVEAWAY ALERT!! 🔔⏰

There is no other band quite like Stinking Lizaveta. The doom metal trio – drums, guitar, and upright bass – have been together for more than three decades and in that time put out nine albums, toured the world, and very much have become part of the fabric of the Philadelphia scene.

They are also good friends of WKDU and we have been playing them on the radio since their very first 7” came out back in 1994.

On Friday the 21st they will be tearing up Johnny Brenda’s on an all-Philly bill with Deathbird Earth and Channls. It is also the latter’s record release, which is very exciting.

…….DEVIL CHILDREN UNITE❗️

The friendship between WKDU and Ink & Dagger goes way back to when the band first started. Actually, no, it goes back even before that, to the days of Frail, Crud Is A Cult, and The Mandela Strikeforce terrorizing Philly basements throughout the early 90s. There was nowhere else on the radio to hear any of these bands! Still isn’t. We played the hell out of all of them and when Ink & Dagger formed out of their embers and started putting out music you better believe those first couple 7”s never left our turntables.

In 1998 the band played an absolutely legendary live session on KDU that perfectly captures them at the height of their vampiric powers. You can listen to that set on our Bandcamp. It’s beyond amazing. Equally cool is the fact that there’s also video of the whole thing, including the band setting up, hanging out, and just bullsh*tting. RIP Sean McCabe, one of the best to ever do it.

Considering that history, KDU is honored to get to give away TWO pairs of tickets to this weekend’s Ink & Dagger shows. Saturday’s 11/1 gig with Soul Glo at the Church and Sunday’s 11/2 with Honey at Warehouse on Watts. Thanks R5 for hooking it up!
