We’ve surpassed our goal for our #2021EMM fundraising totals and we are THANKFUL for everyone’s support !!!! The cards were stacked upp against us this year w a very small crew and we collectively made it happen !!!! A thorough list of THANK YOUs are most definitely in order:

Paul Robeson, without a doubt, was the definition of a renaissance man. Actor, singer, athlete, polyglot, lawyer, and activist- he did it all! After having his passport seized by the US government for his political ideologies and activism on behalf of the Black, working class people, Robeson used any avenue he could to get his message to the people. On 5/27/1957, Robeson hosted a concert for a UK audience from America utilizing the brand new Transatlantic telephone cable evading state repression to convey messages of peace and freedom. Sounds a lot like a livestream! Today, we kickoff the #2021EMM from the @robesonhousephl Come join us!

Alright everyone let's do the work !!! Starting Friday at noon til Monday at midnight WKDU's Electronic Music Marathon will be broadcasting from a number of different offsite locations while raising money for The Paul Robeson House, The Block Gives Back, and CBTEL !!

If you haven't heard by now, we have recently installed an exhibit at the Hagerty Library, titled "WKDU: 50 Years of Student-Run Radio". 

On Tuesday, October 19th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM we will have a formal opening reception/exhibit-walk through!

There will be several guest speakers - talking about their experience at WKDU, and the station's historical significance as an institution in the Philly music scene and beyond!

This year, we brought on everyone's fave Philly jawn @phreedomjawn to be our community ambassador -- they helped us choose this year's EMM beneficiaries & are also recording 10 public service announcements for local organizations that will be added to our auto-playlist 🙂 Thank you so much to Rasheed for all that you do & for helping us get hype for this weekend's #2021EMM, benefitting @robesonhousephl , @cbtel2020 & @theblockgivesback .

WKDU Exhibit at the Library!

Now through December 31st, WKDU will have materials commemorating our 50th anniversary on display at the W.W. Hagerty Library. Each display showcases a different decade within WKDU, including materials from our beginning punk era and history about "The Black Experience in Music".

Along with this, we'll be having a reception event happening in the middle of October. More information on that in the coming week!

We hope you enjoy all that is on display and see the vast history of WKDU :)

To showcase our past 50 years, what better way than with our zines! Our zine reissue contains a bundle of 5 copies, going from 1982 to 2002, with some special interviews such as the Buzzcocks and David Cross! These zines show our spread of fantastic interviews and music culture :)
