Haverford School grads charged with selling drvgs at Main Line schools.

Two graduates of an exclusive Pennsylvania prep school were charged with operating an extensive drug ring that dealt c*c41ne and m4r1ju4na to students at high schools and colleges in an affluent part of Philadelphia, authorities said on Tuesday.
Neil Scott, 25, and Timothy Brooks, 18, led the effort to create a "monopoly" on drug sales in the area and used high school students to deal drvgs at their local schools, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.
"While parents sought to provide education to their kids, these defendants sought to use the schools to create drug addicts," Ferman said in a statement announcing their arrests.
Scott and Brooks were former lacrosse players and graduates of The Haverford School, an all-boys prep school near Philadelphia that charges $35,000 per year in tuition, prosecutors said.
They used their privileged connections to move drvgs along suburban Philadelphia's Main Line, a stretch of wealthy neighborhoods northwest of the city, authorities said.
The two called their drvg network the "main line take over project," and "employed students from five local high schools and three colleges as what they call sub-dealers to distribute c*c41ne, m4r1ju4na, hash oil, 3cst4sy," Ferman said.
Scott and Brooks encouraged dealers, who were assigned to specific schools, to meet quotas including selling a pound (450 grams) a week of m4r1juana transported to Pennsylvania from a California supplier, prosecutors said.
During the four-month investigation, authorities said they uncovered scores of text messages and other communications in which Scott and Brooks discussed their business and their future plans.
One message read that all m4r1ju4na "on the Main Line is about to come from you and me," officials said.
In addition to Scott and Brooks, who faced a preliminary arraignment on Monday, authorities announced the arrest of seven adults and two minors accused of drvg dealing, the Montgomery County District Attorney's office said.
It was unclear how the two men intend to plead.
Gregory Pagano, an attorney for Brooks, said on Tuesday his client was "depressed and was not well physically or mentally."

The 100th Anniversary of Black History Commemorations

February 2026 marks one of the most significant milestones in American cultural history: the 100th anniversary of national Black history celebrations. This year’s theme, A Century of Black History Commemorations, pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who launched the first Negro History Week in February 1926.

Dr. Woodson, a Harvard-educated historian, recognized that African American contributions were being systematically ignored in school textbooks and public discourse. To combat this, he and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) established a week of study and celebration. They strategically placed it in the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two figures who were already deeply respected within the Black community.

The evolution from a week to a full month, officially recognized by President Gerald Ford during the Bicentennial in 1976, represents a century of grassroots effort to make American history more inclusive and accurate. This centennial observance does more than look at the past; it highlights the role these commemorations have played in shaping identity and advancing civil rights over the last 100 years.

As this centennial year unfolds, schools, cultural institutions, and communities across the country have an opportunity to reflect on the purpose of Black history commemorations and recommit to the work Dr. Woodson began. The 100th anniversary is not only a moment of remembrance but a call to continued learning, dialogue, and inclusion, ensuring that Black history remains an essential and integrated part of the American story for generations to come.
