This restored harmonetta is now back with its owner in Connecticut, US. It turned out to become a great playing harmonetta that was very airtight and features two of my custom made gaskets which are waterproof and won’t absorb smells or fall apart like the original and aftermarket paper gaskets. Part of the difficulty of taking a harmonetta apart is if the paper gaskets stick which can lead to a tear. My gaskets won’t do that. They provide a great sealing quality, too! These are all qualities to help the Harmonetta last longer.
This harmonetta had the usual issues of harmonettas bought used after being in storage for many years: bad odors from mold or mildew, windsavers that have dried and fallen off, corrosion from the stored moisture, poor response and intonation, and “ghost notes” where a note will play even when the key is not pressed down. After careful adjusting of the moving parts and reshaping of the brass valves all of these issues were resolved.
The beautiful opalescent windscreen was actually added by the customer after the original black windscreen was covered in mold! I love the look!
