The Irish folk-rock artist has a whopping four tracks on Spotify (with one duplicate), but since his first single went up in September, he has been managing over 200,000 monthly streams. But that total overlooks the 12-minute EP “To the sandals” he released directly on Bandcamp, which is drawing its own acclaim.

Ellis marked his first Philly appearance opening for Geese at Union Transfer on Nov. 13.

In our times of need, it is crucial to have a reason to keep going that is larger than life. There will come a point where tangible joys and the touch of your loved ones will not be enough, and during such times, we must be able to confide in unfathomable forces to move us forward.

For some people, this looks like living on a prayer, for others, it is asking the universe for a sign; something, anything. A faith in something greater is essential to nurturing the faith in oneself.

I spent much of my upbringing searching for something greater, but no matter how desperately I hailed my Marys, I never quite found salvation with the ideal lord and savior. To put it simply, Jesus was just not my jam.

For the past few weeks, Philadelphia commuters have felt a growing unease as the train system they rely on faces threats on two fronts: malfunctioning railcars that have caught fire and transit workers without a contract and on the brink of a strike. Making matters worse, accidental damage to overhead wires has resulted in an unplanned closure of the Center City trolley tunnel, which is expected to last through at least Dec. 7.

All the tension boils down to one question: can SEPTA afford to maintain safe infrastructure and fair labor conditions?

Silverliner IV Fires

This year, the aging Silverliner IV cars that serve in the Regional Rail fleet have been involved in at least five fires, an alarming pattern that prompted the National Transportation Safety Board to recommend suspending the cars until a thorough investigation and repairs were completed…

Since 2008, Philadelphia’s Christmas Village has been an annual family-friendly activity and tourist attraction hosted in Center City. Located between LOVE Park and Dilworth Park, this attraction is modeled after Christkindlmarkt, a German Christmas Market which originated in Nuremberg and dates back to the 16th century.

The market typically opens in Philadelphia in the last week of November and is open until Christmas Eve, ensuring it is open for all visitors to enjoy the festivities at their convenience before Christmas.

The Village is officially opened similarly to Christkindlmarkt, with the original Christkind from Nuremberg delivering her famous prologue and lighting the Pyramid to officially mark the beginning of the festive season in Philadelphia. Throughout the month, the Village has many events, including food tastings, ugly sweater contests, and Santa meetings, which occur on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every week.

Early on Dec. 3, Drexel Athletic Director Maisha Kelly announced that Shannon Grogan had been named Head Coach of Drexel’s women’s soccer.

Grogan replaces long-time head coach Ray Goon. Goon was the head coach of the program for 29 years, making him the only head coach of the program since it was re-established in 1996.

Grogan will need to bring that winning pedigree to West Philadelphia as the Drexel women’s soccer program has drifted into listlessness, making the CAA Tournament just one time in the last seven seasons.

Drexel University campus was rocked this November by two fatal hit-and-runs on Market Street within just seven days.

At approximately 4 am on Nov. 20, 48-year-old Meaza Brown was crossing the intersection of Market Street at 33rd Street when she was struck and killed by a speeding driver. The driver fled in a Chrysler 300, which was recovered nearby, but they remain at large.

Drexel University Police Department confirmed to The Triangle that its person of interest in the case does not have any ties to the campus community, and referred the information to Philadelphia Police Department detectives….

Another year, another fifth-place game for the Drexel Dragons, and for the third straight season, it is against a new opponent. This time, Drexel draws La Salle, a team whose record does not quite tell the full story of how competitive they have been through the early part of the year.

The Dragons enter at 4-4, handling business against weaker competition but falling short when it mattered most, dropping both of their pod-play games. La Salle, at 3-6, has taken its own big losses, particularly in double-digit losses to both Temple and Villanova. Yet despite the setbacks on both sides, these programs match up far more evenly than their resumes may suggest…

The Big 5 Men’s Classic is this Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. The fifth-place game will begin at 2 pm where Drexel will take on La Salle. The third-place game will begin at 4:30 pm where St. Joe’s will take on Temple. And finally, the championship game will kick off at 7:30 pm, where Villanova will take on the University of Pennsylvania.

On Oct. 2, 2025, The Philadelphia Orchestra announced that Joe Hisaishi, Japanese composer and music director most famous for his work composing the scores for many of the studio Ghibli films, would become the new composer-in-residence “effective immediately through the 2026-27 season.”

His most famous compositions include “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “One Summer’s Day” from the Grammy-winning film “Spirited Away.” Outside of his work with Studio Ghibli and his solo albums, Hisaishi has worked on various other forms of film scores including his first western film soundtrack in 2025 with the movie “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.”

He has amassed many accolades including seven Japanese academy awards and one golden globe nomination for “The Boy and the Heron,” the latest Studio Ghibli film. Hisaishi attended Kunitachi College of Music as a music composition major. He has extensive experience with live shows globally, including three sold out shows at the Philadelphia orchestra in June 2025.

“Eternity” is ultimately a movie about moving on, a point made stronger with the limbo-esque setting in the bulk of the film. We follow Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), who is caught between the choice of spending the rest of her afterlife with the husband she died with, or the husband who died in her early years and waited over sixty years in the afterlife to be with her.

The movie approaches this conflict in a delicate manner that allows for all of the nuance and different perspectives one would expect from that more-than-difficult situation; depicting any kind of love triangle almost always is.

King Princess came back to Philly and provided a beautiful q***r safe space to frolic and slow dance in.

On Nov. 1, 2025, the Union Transfer was filled with le****ns, people dressed as cherries, and also the night before’s Halloween costumes — all because the singer King Princess came to town with her “Girl Violence” tour.

Opener Sasami hyped up the crowd with a carefully curated setlist, ending in her pop banger “Slugger,” which had everyone dancing and ready for the main act.

Before King Princess came out on stage, a massive wall featuring graffiti appeared on stage, which would later be used to spray the city’s name on it, like she has done on every stop on this tour so far.
