“As my exchange semester nears its end, I thought it would be fun to compile a list of the biggest culture shocks for me as a German in the United States.

Having been here before, years ago, I expected that nothing could surprise me, but I was very wrong about that. Honestly, even on my first day here, I noticed so many things that were so different from my home…”

This year, Pride Month was not the joyous, massive fest it had been the last few years, but instead had a lot of dark undertones.

It was only nine years ago that gay marriage became legal in the United States in the first place, so I think it’s important to celebrate by shedding a spotlight on one of the most famous le***an couples.

And that is the real world version of “Red, White and Royal Blue” — Leah Williamson, the English soccer captain, and Elle Smith, former Miss USA.

Ah, Christmas. For those who celebrate, this festive time of year is a time for giving gifts, decorating our living spaces with colorful lights, and arguing with our loved ones about movies. So, in keeping with this oh-so-noble Yuletide tradition, let us examine everyone’s favorite Christmas movie, John McTiernan’s 1988 action film “Die Hard,” starring Bruce Willis.

The film follows off-duty police officer John McClane as he foils the insidious plot of the German terrorist Hans Gruber, who seizes control of Nakatomi Plaza during one of the company’s lavish parties. What begins as any corporate celebration quickly turns into a high-stakes hostage scenario, leaving McClane, armed with grit, gallows humor, and no shoes, to single-handedly dismantle Gruber’s operation.

However, one may ask, why is this movie a Christmas movie?

Do not be put off by the fancy sound of it — this non-profit puts forth its best attempt to curate a strong community for all artists. Patrons, workshops, exhibits, and membership opportunities all give artists the education and resources they need to develop.

The club’s mission extends all the way back to its origins. Started by students of the late Philadelphia University of the Arts, their mission was to create a space for artists and students of art to have the resources and support needed to succeed.

Since 2008, Philadelphia’s Christmas Village has been an annual family-friendly activity and tourist attraction hosted in Center City. Located between LOVE Park and Dilworth Park, this attraction is modeled after Christkindlmarkt, a German Christmas Market which originated in Nuremberg and dates back to the 16th century. ❄️

The Village is officially opened similarly to Christkindlmarkt, with the original Christkind from Nuremberg delivering her famous prologue and lighting the Pyramid to officially mark the beginning of the festive season in Philadelphia.

Throughout the month, the Village has many events, including food tastings, ugly sweater contests, and Santa meetings, which occur on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every week. 🤶🧇🥂

Enjoy a very special writer highlight this December and fun adventure of the Christmas Village from Audrey Scott and her article, “The Christmas Village brings Cheer to Center City” 🎄🎅

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the Steinbright Career Development Center sent an email announcing that the 2026-2027 spring/summer co-op will be shortened by one month, as well as the first fall semester co-op in the 2027-2028 academic year. The revised co-ops will end and begin in early August 2027, instead of in September.

The change comes as one of many being announced as the Academic Transformation looms ever nearer. Some of the adjustments being made have already stirred unrest in the student body, such as the splitting of the summer term, but nothing has caused the same uproar as shortening two co-ops. Many students choose Drexel for its co-op program, and the prospect of shortchanging students is not well-received.

The announcement states that after the transition, co-ops will return to their normal length and that students “[will] continue to have the opportunity to participate in multiple co-op cycles,” but, critically, not every Drexel student is enrolled in a five-year, three-co-op program.

Though the city has built a reputation for dynamic chef-driven dining, this marks the first time its restaurants have been recognized alongside the top kitchens in the country.

Along with these three fine dining experiences, ten restaurants received a Bib Gourmand award, and one received a Green Star. The Bib Gourmand is an award for “recognizing restaurants that serve high-quality food at great value.”

The Green Star recognizes restaurants that take part in eco-friendly practices, with Pietramala being the only Philadelphia restaurant to receive the award.

The Big 5 Classic is a basketball matchup between the big five Philadelphia schools. The Drexel Dragons are playing La Salle on Saturday, December 6th.

Saint Joseph’s vs Temple

If La Salle-Drexel is about toughness and survival, Temple-Saint Joseph’s is about identity. Both teams sit right around .500, both have played brutally tough stretches early, and both have numbers that say “we are better than what our record shows.” This game is a chance for each side to prove that their best version is the real one.

On one side, Temple brings a hyper-efficient three-headed scoring attack and one of the best free-throw profiles in the city. On the other hand, Saint Joseph’s counters with strong guard-play, rebounding, and a relentless downhill mentality that lives at the rim.

Temple Owls:

The Temple offense operates through a balanced, highly efficient trio that is composed of Derrian Ford, Aiden Tobiason, and Jordan Mason – the engines behind the Owls’ 76.4 points per game. Ford leads the way with 16.3 points per game, attacking the rim relentlessly and converting at an excellent 83 percent clip from the free-throw line…

Karoline Leavitt, age 28, is the youngest White House press secretary in history. Love her or hate her, it is objectively evident that she is quite ambitious; making it to the White House at such a young age is no simple feat.

During her public appearances and press debriefings, Karoline speaks with a viscous sense of confidence — biting and scathing. However, it is this ferocity that rouses this question: Who exactly is Ms. Leavitt fighting for?

Is she driven by a passion for justice and adoration for democracy? Or perhaps she is driven by the American promise that anyone who comes here and works hard enough can make their wildest dreams come true.

12/15/2025

At the beginning of the fall term, Drexel President Antonio Merlo introduced a new initiative, Student Office Hours with the President, aimed at enhancing “connection and transparency.” This is the first presidential office-hour opportunity The Triangle could find a record of in nearly a decade and has fostered a direct channel of communication between all university students and the Office of the President.

As of Dec. 4, two sessions have occurred, with a third scheduled for today, Dec. 5. All three require pre-registration via a form sent by email. All three sessions filled to the maximum capacity of 20 or fewer nearly immediately after the email was sent to students.

At the first session on Friday, Oct. 17, a near-equal mix of graduate and undergraduate students posed a range of questions, from international student visa status to the state of Drexel’s dining halls. The most prominent theme of the session was the University’s “tricky” financial situation.

Content Warning: This article references nudity and blood.

Time and time again, I have found myself attributing the source of my greatness to sorrow and struggle. Good grades appear to be the product of grueling study, hole-in-ones preceded by heads in the wall.

With my last working pencil splintered in my fist, I cannot help but wonder if this is necessary. In a world so eager to dismiss our woes as essential to our wonder, is struggle really the key to success? Must we be tortured by our craft?

The Irish folk-rock artist has a whopping four tracks on Spotify (with one duplicate), but since his first single went up in September, he has been managing over 200,000 monthly streams. But that total overlooks the 12-minute EP “To the sandals” he released directly on Bandcamp, which is drawing its own acclaim.

Ellis marked his first Philly appearance opening for Geese at Union Transfer on Nov. 13.
