From the start, the Drexel men’s soccer team has had a competitive season, but has often been close to being much more. Currently standing at 4-5-6 overall (2-4-1 CAA), the Dragons are structured, well-disciplined, and competitive in every game. However, too many previous games have ended in ties or one-goal losses that have left a bit to be desired.

Drexel’s statistical profile is clear: consistent work and close margins. The Dragons are essentially even with competition in shots overall (164-162) and shots on net (67-64), but their shooting is slightly behind at 11 percent to competitors’ 13 percent. The squad managed to score 18 goals while conceding 21 – a testament to the team’s sound defensive work. Goalkeeper Raphael Bartell is solid in goal with three shutouts and a 1.13 average against in nine outings. The backline allowed just 1.42 goals per game, a respectable figure in a CAA full of parity, and the Dragons held teams to one goal or less in 9 of 15 contests – a solid effort by the defense all year long...

Approximately two million Pennsylvanians who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, may face disruptions in their benefits this November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. For college students — especially those in the Philadelphia area — this uncertainty is concerning, as many depend on these benefits to help cover their grocery bills.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services announced that without immediate action from Congress, SNAP payments will not be issued for November. Governor Josh Shapiro expressed concern, saying “The federal shutdown is threatening critical food assistance for two million Pennsylvanians who rely on SNAP to feed themselves and their families.”

“Caught Stealing” is a turning point for director Darren Aronofsky. For viewers who have seen any of his previous films, they might be expecting his newest to be in line with his unnerving “Requiem for a Dream” released in 2000 or his more recent film, “The Whale,” released in 2022. While these psychological powerhouses continue to disturb long after the credits roll, “Caught Stealing” ambitions are elsewhere. This is not a flaw, but is in fact exactly what makes the film remarkable: it sticks in the audience’s mind because of how much of a damn good time it is, which is a total deviation from Aronofsky’s past work. He is clearly having fun with this movie, a word that would never be used to describe his past films.

In “Caught Stealing,” we follow washed-up baseball star Hank Thompson, played by Austin Butler, working as a barkeep in a distinctly grimy Lower East Side dive. Years after his baseball ambitions slipped away from him in a tragic fashion, all he wants to do is lay low...

On Thursday, Sept. 25, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University announced a drastic reduction in its hours of operation. Beginning this week, the museum will be open only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Thursdays and Friday mornings will be designated for school visits, with additional, occasional members-only hours available throughout the year.

Until recently, the museum operated five days a week. This retreat from public engagement reflects several factors addressed in president and CEO Scott Cooper’s statement on the matter, including the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on visitation and the looming loss of federal funding.

Founded in 1812, the Academy is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas. Its prime location, across from Logan Square on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, has made it a long-standing cultural centerpiece in the city…

A weeklong celebration of the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary will kick off this Thursday, Oct. 9, with a parade of ships on the Delaware River. Soon to follow will be festivities for the Marine Corps’ celebration of its own 250th anniversary on Nov. 10.

Navy festivities will run through Oct. 16 and include a variety of events, but many details are yet to be finalized. However, a free-to-watch Blue Angels flyover at Independence Mall is confirmed for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13.

Ticketed tours of the historic ships at the Independence Seaport Museum will be available throughout the week, as well as tours of active Navy ships at Penn’s Landing and the Navy Yard beginning Oct. 10.

Navy ships will ultimately depart on Thursday, Oct. 16.

According to WOAR’s own figures, “As of Monday, WOAR has received 1,775 hotline calls, a total of 2,325 new clients, and reached 7,306 school and community members through their prevention and education work in 2025.” That local capacity is being gutted while the state budget remains unconfirmed. Beginning this Friday, survivors who call WOAR’s hotline will instead be rerouted to the national RAINN crisis line, a change staff say will disrupt the continuity of care survivors depend on.

WOAR is the only rape crisis center in Philadelphia and receives 73% of its funding from the Pennsylvania Coalition to Advance Respect, which is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. In an interview with The Triangle, WOAR staff emphasized that delayed state funding, coupled with uncertainty about the ultimate amount to be released, forced the organization into the impossible choice of shutting down.
