On Oct. 2, 2025, The Philadelphia Orchestra announced that Joe Hisaishi, Japanese composer and music director most famous for his work composing the scores for many of the studio Ghibli films, would become the new composer-in-residence “effective immediately through the 2026-27 season.”

His most famous compositions include “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “One Summer’s Day” from the Grammy-winning film “Spirited Away.” Outside of his work with Studio Ghibli and his solo albums, Hisaishi has worked on various other forms of film scores including his first western film soundtrack in 2025 with the movie “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.”

He has amassed many accolades including seven Japanese academy awards and one golden globe nomination for “The Boy and the Heron,” the latest Studio Ghibli film. Hisaishi attended Kunitachi College of Music as a music composition major. He has extensive experience with live shows globally, including three sold out shows at the Philadelphia orchestra in June 2025.

“Eternity” is ultimately a movie about moving on, a point made stronger with the limbo-esque setting in the bulk of the film. We follow Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), who is caught between the choice of spending the rest of her afterlife with the husband she died with, or the husband who died in her early years and waited over sixty years in the afterlife to be with her.

The movie approaches this conflict in a delicate manner that allows for all of the nuance and different perspectives one would expect from that more-than-difficult situation; depicting any kind of love triangle almost always is.

King Princess came back to Philly and provided a beautiful q***r safe space to frolic and slow dance in.

On Nov. 1, 2025, the Union Transfer was filled with le****ns, people dressed as cherries, and also the night before’s Halloween costumes — all because the singer King Princess came to town with her “Girl Violence” tour.

Opener Sasami hyped up the crowd with a carefully curated setlist, ending in her pop banger “Slugger,” which had everyone dancing and ready for the main act.

Before King Princess came out on stage, a massive wall featuring graffiti appeared on stage, which would later be used to spray the city’s name on it, like she has done on every stop on this tour so far.

On Oct. 31, Drexel University’s neighboring university, the University of Pennsylvania, was subject to a data breach affecting 1.2 million records, according to the hackers who claimed responsibility. UPenn noted that due to the ongoing investigation, they are unable to confirm this number.

Dr. Pablo Molina, Drexel’s interim chief information officer, acknowledged to The Triangle that “Drexel has the same probability of being attacked.” Drexel and UPenn take similar measures to protect against cybersecurity threats. However, Molina noted that the main difference is that UPenn is larger and more decentralized, which can make security coordination more difficult.

On Nov. 3rd, 2025, the Drexel Men’s Basketball team won their opening game 93 – 59, against Widener University. Now, this isn’t an article primarily about basketball. Rather, this article highlights the hyper halftime performance staged by Valentinesday, Joontoon, and Obvi.

Concluding the first half of Drexel vs. Widener, students took the stage for sports fans, many of whom were more accustomed to halftime dance music than the subgenre of hyperpop, in which these artists specialize.

Those who attended Dragonfly 2025 recognized this unique style of the trio’s performance. Each artist performed about three songs which created new excitement for both Dragon spirit and the basketball team.

During the NCAA tournament on Nov. 12th, Drexel faced a familiar opponent in Saint Joseph’s. This game was a rematch from earlier in the season, when Drexel upset the #20 Hawks 3-2. However, Wednesday’s match did not fall in the Dragon’s favor, as Saint Joseph’s won 2-0. They will advance to play against the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday, Nov. 14th.

Within the CAA, numerous players earned awards and recognition. Most notably, Valentine Van Hellemont won the CAA Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The junior from Belgium scored eight goals and recorded 12 assists. Her efforts during the tournament also earned her tournament MVP.

A pilot scuba diving event is headed to the DAC swimming pool on Nov. 15th. The idea came to MBA candidate Derek Smith after an entrepreneurship class.

“I was taking Entrepreneurship 501 with Dr. Barrie Litzky, and the class final was starting a hypothetical business venture. I took my background as a scuba diving instructor, and I kind of just pulled it up into a real entrepreneurial venture,” said Smith. “I asked [Drexel] if they would be interested in [a scuba program], and the Rec Center was really interested. They thought it would be a neat program to eventually split into a full-time offering.”

As a certified diving instructor, Smith saw an opportunity for a scuba diving program at Drexel.

In August 2027, Drexel University will implement its academic overhaul, branded the Academic Transformation. A key aspect is the official calendar switch from quarters to semesters.

This transition alone will not impact current students’ ability to graduate as planned, provided that they continue to make satisfactory progress in their current degree programs. In addition, costs to students will not increase as billing and financial aid are adjusted to reflect the new semester calendar. Find out all about this change and how it will impact Drexel students.

for commuters, students who lose a chunk of their day to traveling, life at college can feel like an uphill battle. Your routine is disrupted by either racing to make the train, only for it to be delayed or canceled, or scrambling to beat the Schuylkill traffic.

The award-winning walk-up pastry window has quickly become one of Philadelphia’s most beloved dessert destinations since opening in 2020. Every item is baked in small batches for peak freshness, and whether visitors crave something sweet or savory, there is a treat crafted with precision and packed with personality.

Gray’s Ferry locals have fallen hard for this colorful, blue-and-white takeout window, which has earned praise from “Philadelphia Magazine” and “The Inquirer.” Most notably, its soft serve made the 2022 “Best of Philly” List, and for good reason! Flavors rotate weekly and tend to sell out fast, so early risers are rewarded.

“The early bird catches the worm.” It tries to teach that when you get up early, you have the whole day ahead of you to be productive. But what about the hours of the night? You can also use them!

However, society does not seem to care about that and wants people to stay in a rigorous system of getting up early and therefore going to bed early.

Apart from the fact that people just have different sleep cycles and different productivity levels throughout the day (and night), it is also not a feasible system on a grander scale. If you have to work from nine to five, but the stores are open from nine to five, when do you have time to go there and run errands?
