We must never forget: Coast Guard officer still trapped inside sunken drug submarine
We must never forget that we lost one of our own servicemen — Able Seaman Keiron Simon — who is still believed to be inside a semi-submersible vessel at the bottom of the ocean.
Simon, a dedicated member of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, disappeared nearly eight months ago on the night of February 20th, 2025, during a high-risk operation involving a suspected drug-trafficking semi-submersible.
According to reports, Simon entered the vessel to conduct a search when it suddenly sank beneath the surface. Another officer who was with him managed to escape, but Simon never resurfaced.
His family says that despite repeated assurances, no recovery has yet been carried out, and they are pleading for closure.
In an earlier interview, Simon’s brother, Kelvon Simon, revealed that the Coast Guard confirmed a private company had been sourced to retrieve the sunken vessel — where Keiron is believed to be trapped — but that mission remains on hold pending Government approval.
“My brother went missing while in the line of duty. We deserve the truth — and we deserve action,” Kelvon told Ian Alleyne Network in April.
The semi-submersible was reportedly linked to several Colombian drug trafficking suspects whom were taken into custody following the operation. However, the family continues to express frustration that while arrests were made, the body of their loved one remains unrecovered at sea.
Four months later, questions remain unanswered, and the silence from state authorities continues to deepen the family’s pain.— Story by Ian Alleyne Network
