Prompt: What part of your truth deserves to be voiced instead of hidden?
My Answer:
The part of my truth that deserves to be voiced is the insanity of addiction —
the nervous system overload, the obsession, the way alcoholism takes over your body and mind.
From the outside, people think it’s just about “not drinking.”
But once you’re hooked, it feels like survival — like you need it just to get through the day.
You can be a mom, a dad, a daughter, a son —
and still, nothing matters more than feeding the addiction for a moment of relief,
even while you’re poisoning yourself and slowly losing your life.
Early sobriety isn’t being “fixed.”
It’s hanging on for dear life.
That’s why I use my voice.
Because silence would have taken me back out.
I’m certain I would have relapsed if I had stayed silent.
Speaking my truth didn’t just save my sobriety —
it helped me stay alive long enough to heal.
And yes — we do recover.
