Tubmanburg City is set for a Sanitation Revolution, as Mayor Mohammed Sheriff Announces Purchase of Three Large Tricycles and New Equipment.

August 11, 2026

Tubmanburg City is set for a major boost in sanitation as Mayor Mohammed Sheriff announces the procurement of three large tricycles and other sanitary equipment to strengthen garbage collection across the city.

Speaking during a joint media interview over the weekend, Mayor Sheriff said the sanitation equipment was purchased through funding allocated to the city in the 2026 Bomi County Budget, with the three tricycles costing a combined US$15,300, or approximately US$5,100 each.

The Mayor described the investment as part of his administration's efforts to address the growing garbage problem in Tubmanburg and create a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
He expressed appreciation to the Bomi County Superintendent's Office for its support, while promising continued cooperation with county authorities and community leaders to make Tubmanburg a cleaner and greener city.

Mayor Sheriff disclosed that a citywide garbage collection system will soon be introduced, following ongoing consultations with community leadership to determine the number of households across Tubmanburg.

Under the proposed arrangement, households are expected to pay a minimum monthly sanitation fee of 150 Liberian dollars to support garbage collection services.

The Mayor said the initiative will create a more organized system for removing waste from communities while encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.

He further linked the sanitation drive to the national campaign led by Liberia's First Lady, aimed at encouraging cleaner communities, and said his administration is determined to position Tubmanburg to compete for recognition as one of the country's cleanest cities.

Mayor Sheriff maintained that his administration's performance will ultimately be measured by results, promising that the new sanitation equipment will soon begin making a visible difference across Tubmanburg.

A CRY FOR HELP FROM THE BOMI COUNTY DEBATE TEAM

By: J. Hassan Tamba, Jr. β€” Veteran Debater

Dear Honorable Lawmakers, Permanent Sons and Daughters of Bomi, Bomi County Leadership, residents, citizens in the diaspora, business owners, community leaders, organizations, and well-wishers:

This is a sincere appeal for help, not for individuals, but for the young people who are preparing to carry the name and voice of Bomi County to the national stage.

Over the years, we have made efforts to support different county activities. We have rallied behind our sports teams, supported quizzing and other academic competitions, and celebrated our young people whenever they make Bomi proud. But year after year, the Bomi County Debate Team continues to face the same challenge: inadequate support.

I believe it is time we have an honest conversation.
Who will speak for Bomi if we do not support those who have found their voice?

The Bomi County Debate Team is preparing to represent our county at the 2026 Voices Liberia National Debate Meet NDM in Grand Bassa County, beginning September 19, 2026.

These young people are not simply going to a competition. They will carry Bomi's name, reputation, intelligence, and aspirations with them. They will demonstrate that our young people can think critically, speak confidently, defend ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions about Liberia's future.

This year's theme is:
β€œSay It β€” Speaking the Liberia You Want.”

The Liberia we want cannot be built by government and politicians alone. It must be built by all of us, especially the young people who will inherit it.

That is why I am appealing to:
Our Honorable Senators and Representatives, to support the team as part of your commitment to education and youth development.

The permanent sons and daughters of Bomi County, wherever you are, to invest in the intellectual future of our county. Our county leadership, business community, NGOs, churches, mosques, youth organizations, schools, alumni associations, philanthropists, and well-wishers, to join this effort.

YOUR SUPPORT CAN HELP PROVIDE:
Transportation
Accommodation
Feeding
Debate materials and logistics
Other essential team expenses

The NDM Legacy Drive will also take debate beyond the competition through peer-to-peer mentorship, educational engagement, and outreach to vulnerable and underserved communities.

We often celebrate young people after they bring home trophies. We post their pictures and say, β€œBomi is proud.”
But were we there when they needed us to prepare for that victory?
Let us support them before the victory, not only after it.

As a veteran debater, I understand the preparation, sacrifice, and determination required to represent Bomi on a debate platform. These young people deserve the opportunity to stand before the nation and say:

No contribution is too small. If you cannot contribute financially, share this message, make a call, or connect the team to someone who can help.
Let us send them to Grand Bassa knowing that an entire county stands behind them.

For Support & Contributions:
Head Coach: Mr. Abraham Ballah Zayzay
Cell: 0881846171 / 0778048378

Let us stand with our young people. Let us invest in their voices. Let us make Bomi proud.
