🚨 HIGH-YIELD INFOGRAPHIC ALERT! 🚨

😴 Choosing & Interpreting the Right Sleep Study: What Every Clinician Should Know

Not all sleep studies are created equal—and the test you choose matters.

In #535 of The Curbsiders, we break down the practical approach to evaluating suspected obstructive sleep apnea, including:

🛌 Home sleep testing vs. in-lab polysomnography — when to choose each
📊 AHI vs. REI — and why the distinction matters
🫁 3% vs. 4% desaturation criteria — a key testing nuance
🌙 REM sleep & body position — why a “normal” AHI may not tell the whole story
📈 ODI, T90/T88 & other metrics — what to look for beyond the AHI
⚠️ When a negative or inconclusive home study should lead to in-lab testing

High-yield takeaway: A “normal” overall AHI doesn’t always mean the patient doesn’t have clinically important OSA. Look at the whole study—including sleep stage, position, oxygenation, and the limitations of the test itself.
