One of the questions I asked Ethan McDowell toward the end of our conversation was what he hopes is still true of him years from now if more success comes.

Not just as an actor.
As a person.

I liked where this part of the conversation went because it pulled things back to something deeper than career momentum or recognition.

It’s easy to focus on what we want to achieve.

It’s harder, and probably more important, to think about who we want to remain while we’re doing it.

This clip is a small moment from Episode 3 of The Power of Human Stories with Ethan McDowell.

So you show up to set and know that there's a chance you're going to be acting in a scene across from an A-lister, but you don't know who....

In this month's episode of the Power of Human Stories, Ethan McDowell shares his experience with working on several big budget TV productions including HBO's The Righteous Gemstones.

Ethan is one of those friends I've had the privilege of staying in touch with all of these years. His career has spanned a lot of ups and downs and it's so cool to finally sit down with him and hear directly from him the amazing nuggets of wisdom he's picked up along the way!

I've always wondered what it takes to persevere in creative careers, especially one as thankless as acting. There's what people see on the outside, and then there’s the real day-to-day grind behind it.

Ethan McDowell's episode of The Power of Human Stories is now live.

Ethan and I go back more than 10 years, to a season when Vega Productions was doing a lot more narrative filmmaking and cutting our teeth on short films together. Some of those projects were scrappy, ambitious, and honestly still really meaningful to me.

I’ve followed his journey from the sidelines over the years as he’s kept showing up, kept doing the work, and kept building a real acting career in Hollywood and Atlanta, working on productions like The Walking Dead, Ms. Marvel, Doom Patrol, and HBO's The Righteous Gemstones.

In this conversation, we go deeper into that journey. Not just the credits or the roles, but the mindset it takes to stay in the game, stay grounded, and stay true to who you are in an industry that can easily pull people in a lot of different directions.

If you’ve ever wanted a more realistic look at the world of acting, I think you’ll appreciate this one!

I am super excited to share my conversation with Ethan McDowell next Monday, where we dove into topics like his journey from a small town in Wyoming, his appearances in major tv shows, and his hunger and continued perseverance in acting through life's ups and downs.

In this clip, you can hear him talk about how a show The Walking Dead transformed Atlanta's economy and culture. It's fascinating to hear how a show can turn a town into a vibrant hub of creativity and tourism.

See you on Monday for the full episode!

At one point in our conversation in Episode 02, I asked Roland when he first realized there might actually be a path to making a living in music.

For him, it wasn’t a single opportunity or breakthrough. It was the realization that the music he loved was everywhere — in films, in television, in the stories he was already drawn to. And behind that music were composers who weren’t mythical figures, but real, attainable people doing the work.

That shift in perspective made the idea of a career in music feel possible.

Episode 03 comes out later this month with another awesome guest.... To be announced soon!

Episode 2 of The Power of Human Stories is now live.

This one is a conversation with my friend Roland Bingaman

Roland is a composer, but what we talked about wasn’t really the technical side of music. It was more about the path that led him there — the pivots, the doubts, the seasons where he wondered if he should keep going at all.

One part of the conversation that stuck with me was hearing how writing music became a way for him to process some really difficult moments in life, especially while walking through serious health challenges with his wife.

It’s an honest conversation about creativity, perseverance, and the kinds of experiences that shape the work we end up making.

If that kind of conversation resonates with you, I think you’ll appreciate this episode! You can listen here:

I recently chatted with Rob Ricotta about why he got into voice acting and storytelling. His answer? Simple: "I just wanted to play."

Rob reminded me that as kids, we're always chasing that joy and playfulness. For him, it's all about making people laugh — not for the fame, but because it genuinely lights him up.

If you haven't had the chance to listen to Episode 01 of the Power of Human stories, you can listen to the rest of Rob's journey and insights here: https://www.vega.productions/resources/episode-01-robert-ricotta-from-small-town-to-big-brands

My first guest is Rob Ricotta — a voice actor and storyteller I’ve had the privilege of knowing for many years. In this conversation, we talk about where his journey began, the risks and uncertainties of pursuing creative work, and how his perspective has evolved over time.

This is our very first episode, so thank you for your patience as we get this off the ground. These conversations are mostly unedited and raw by design — just an honest attempt to create space for people to reflect and share their story.

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while...

I’m usually more comfortable behind the camera, but this idea has been on my heart for a long time.

I’ve met some incredible people throughout my career, and their stories deserve space.

Sharing a small intro to a new podcast I’m working on — The Power of Human Stories.

First episode launches Monday, February 16th. Rob Ricotta

I’m extremely proud to share this latest long form storytelling piece created for President Kim Phipps as she retires from Messiah University after 26 years of service. This one was such a team effort! 6 separate shoot days, 10 different interviewees, one common thread: the huge amount of love and respect so many people have for this amazing leader.

My friend Allan and I have been connected since our undergrad days at Messiah University, and today he’s making an impact at Tufts University. Last year, he reached out to see if I could assist with graduate admissions videos for the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences/School of Engineering.

So last September we had the pleasure of heading to Medford, MA, to capture a series of videos that help tell the Tufts Graduate School story. Here’s one of the videos that came out of that shoot – excited to share the final result!
