🌟 Community Spotlight: Loco Pez 🌟

Every great Philly restaurant has a story — and for Loco Pez, it starts with owner Joe Beckham and a spark of inspiration from Los Angeles taco trucks. 🌮✨

Joe’s road to success wasn’t overnight. He encountered some challenges early on in the food and beverage industry but setbacks didn’t stop him. Instead, each venture sharpened his vision: to create places that feel like home — casual, welcoming, and always centered around good food.

That dream took shape in 2011, when Joe transformed a Fishtown bar into the first Loco Pez. The concept? A neighborhood taqueria-meets-dive-bar serving up LA-style Mexican street food. The space feels playful and nostalgic — think retro ’70s rec-room meets kitschy colors and mixed materials — the kind of spot where locals, students, and taco lovers instantly feel at ease.

🌮 The Food:
From dollar taco nights to late-night cravings, the menu is packed with flavor. Classics like carne asada, pollo, and al pastor tacos share the stage with creative options like seitan, shrimp, and even bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Burritos, quesadillas, and those fan favorite Elote Wings — bold, satisfying, and always affordable.

🍹 The Drinks:
Known for their strong margaritas and a deep lineup of tequilas, Loco Pez also serves Mexican beers, wines, and other bar favorites. The drinks are simple but legendary — fueling everything from lively happy hours to late-night celebrations.

🎶 The Vibe:
Casual, loud, and full of energy, Loco Pez is the kind of place where strangers become friends over tacos and cheap beer. If you’re lucky enough to catch a dollar taco night, you’ll see the community at its best: packed tables, good music, and the smell of sizzling tortillas in the air.

From one Fishtown bar to multiple locations across Philly — including West Philly and Graduate Hospital — Loco Pez has grown into more than just a taqueria. It’s Joe’s love letter to LA taco culture, rooted in Philly grit. A story of resilience, flavor, and community. 💥

👉 Next time you’re craving bold tacos and a margarita that doesn’t mess around, step into Loco Pez — where every bite (and sip) comes with a story

Road Dawg Community Spotlight:
Adan Rosario| The American Dream

As a young kid born and raised in the Dominican Republic, a career as a Barber never crossed Adan Rosario's mind. Life for him on the island was much different then. His kindred spirit made him popular amongst his peers growing up in the streets of Santiago. As our conversation carried on, he went on to describe to me how he and his friends would walk miles every day just to play pickup basketball. His career choices were not yet a topic of discussion. Rounding about his teenage years though, he started to take an interest in music and began producing for local acts. Just when he started to find passion in his newfound endeavor, his life was uprooted. At 17 years old, his family moved to America.
Expectations were set early, and Rosario's mother [Tania] came to America understanding the endless opportunities in the States. Her priority was his education. Understanding that pressure, things began to get challenging during these times but his ambitions led him on a new journey.
Ironically enough, it was Rosario's Barber [Patron] that would change his life forever. During a Haircut, Adan went on expressing his financial woes, and future career decisions, when his barber suggested that he take on the art of cutting hair. He offered to mentor him and allowed him to use his shop as a base of operations.
That day was the beginning of his new career. A craft handed down from one generation to the next that currently puts food on the table for his two beautiful children.
Almost two decades later, Rosario is a successful Master Barber, with dreams of soon opening his very own barbershop. He's gone on to add SMP [Scalp Micropigmentation] to the list of skills he offers and continues to build on his already impressive resume.
Just recently, the Dominican Republic native went viral for his inspiring work, cutting the hair of children with special needs. When I asked, about his success with that niche market, He simply says, " How would I want others to treat my children, nieces, or siblings- with love, patience, and grace. That's how I treat all of my clients, especially the children who need it most."
