OMG!!!! We TOTALLY missed the birthday of our patron Saint here at Sonic Jackalope Studio , Wendy Carlos! World- Class concert pianist , skilled engineer on the cutting edge of synthesizer design and Grammy award winning composer of Classical works, ambient electronic albums and legendary film scores that include works such as "The Shining", "A Clockwork Orange" and "Tron" (a personal favorite and inspiration for the owner of the studio themselves!). She even collaborated with Weird AL Yankovic on a comedy rendition of "Peter and The Wolf" that, of course, garnered another Grammy nomination!
As a musician, an engineer, a composer and an openly transgendered woman, she is the pioneer we all should strive to be.
To the mother of electronic music, happy birthday! You are one of the reasons Sonic Jackalope exists today...
Happy birthday to the great Wendy Carlos, the GRAMMY-winning electronic music pioneer and composer behind "Switched-On Bach," as well as the soundtracks to Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Shining."
Bob observed of Carlos that "She really understood instinctively what I was doing right and wrong. In my entire lifetime, I'd only seen a very few people who took so naturally to an instrument...It was just a God-given gift."
In turn, she called Bob "an intelligent, modest, and lovable man who helped us define a new medium. I don't know how I'd have been able to start my career if Bob had not been there. And I'll never forget him."
Respect to one of the greats on her birthday.
