While tide pooling in Carmel, I found this little rockfish fish trapped in an isolated tide pool!

With no flowing water, the tide dropping for another three hours, and no way back to the ocean, I felt like I should help this fish out of this precarious situation.

I managed to get my thumb in his mouth, lip the little guy, and get him back into the ocean (where the water would be nice and cool and there would be plenty of oxygen!)

A neat encounter and a successful wildlife rescue!

California Sheephead are one of Californias coolest and most prized fish, and this large male I met while diving in La Jolla was super curious!

He followed us around for the better part of the dive, coming in close if we kicked up same with our fins (or tossed it into the water column intentionally).

This wasn’t a coincidence… this fish has likely learned that divers often kick up sand and scare prey out of hiding places, leading to easier meals for the fish, as long as he simply follows divers around the preserve!

You can’t tell on camera, but this fish was every part of 32 inches, and has no doubt been learning this behavior and taking advantage of divers in the preserve to snag a ton of easy meals while knowing the divers in question pose no threat!

Oh to be a fish living in the La Jolla Marine Preserve!

THOSE ARENT BOOGERS

If you didn’t know, Vaseline can help you get a good seal against facial hair, so my mustache is always covered in Vaseline when I dive… looks kinda nasty but gets the job done!

You don’t have to be scuba certified or even go swimming to see sharks in La Jolla!

Just be adventurous and wade out into the surf and next thing you know, you’ll be surrounded by some of the most beautiful sharks in California!

Chat, am I a terrorist?

The dictionary defines Environmentalist as a person who is focused on the preservation, restoration, and improvement of the natural environment.

If you advocate for the protection of the natural world, care about the damage done to our environment due to pollution, climate change or habitat destruction, and want to see the our natural environment restored to its former glory, then you might be an Environmentalist!

Unfortunately, our current administration feels that environmentalists should be labeled as terrorists…

So just ask yourself, does anything listed above sound like something a terrorist would do?

Or is advocating and caring for the environment just the right thing to do?
