I’m sure this may be dull to many of you, but this is a huge day for me. Many of you asked me update you when it’s done. And so here it is.
For those who didn’t see my first post, here’s a recap:
A year and a half ago, I decided I had too much yarn that I didn’t love and that was taking up too much space, so I decided to make a scrap-busting blanket. My rules: no cream, no bright red, no black and no two squares alike ( actually messed up on that and have 2 the same but I didn’t notice until it was done).
Months ago, thought I was done, but when I tried it on the bed I realized it was much too small. At that point I was plenty sick of the project having picked away at it for so long so I came here for advice: should I suck it up and make a lot more squares or say good enough and finish it.
1000 of you commented giving me encouragement and suggestions and ideas and inspiration to finish it right!
Today I wove in the last end!!!
It measures 98”x84” and weights a whopping 11 pounds. Crocheted blankets are the original weighted blanket!!
Even though my kids aren’t even married, I hope one day my grandkids will spread this blanket out and chose their favourite squares and colour combinations and snuggle under it. Wanting to make every square different forced me into some colour combinations I never would have thought of otherwise, that I now love and want to use in future projects.
Did it get rid of a lot of yarn? YES!! In fact, I had so little yarn left I had to buy new skeins to do the border. (Poor me 😉)
So this is a huge thank you post to those who took time out of their busy lives to comment and get me over the finish line on this massive project. Right now, I am so sick of it I’m not sure I even like it any more, but I’m sure I’ll appreciate it again after a while once I get some distance between me and the hundred of ends I had to weave in. And if anyone suggests making matching pillow cases I WILL have to block you 😉
Thanks again! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have finished it without your help. Good job everyone!
Edit: For those of you spotting the little grey floof ball in one of the pictures, that’s Bentley. He’s our 2.5 pound blue holland lop bunny and he had to know what was going on! I’ll attach a picture of him so he can get all the admiration he deserves!
Edit #2: I’ll post a picture of the two squares that ended up being the same. Fortunately, I like the colour combination, and hopefully the outline being different helps it from being too noticeable. There are a few that look the same in the photo that in person do look quite different.
